November Is Drawing to a Close

One morning last week, a fierce North Wind blew in.  Edgrr and Stinker were waiting eagerly for me to open the door, but when I did and the wind slapped them in the face, they changed their minds and went to find someplace warm to curl up and go back to sleep.  I rather felt the same way!

The cold front pushed through, and we've been back in the 60's and 70's.   My favorite kind of weather.

Incoming Mail

This card from Teresa made me smile.

from Hester

from Carol Ann

Carol Ann cleverly made a booklet out of this card
by punching holes in the card and inserting several pages
of pages for her letter, like signatures in a book.
Steal worthy idea!

3 signatures = 6 extra pages for the letter,
plus the front and back of the card!

What a great idea for a Christmas card!

Outgoing Mail
Suzie always texts me to tell me when she gets a letter, and
I get a quick update about N.O.:
Her school is still requiring masks, although many aren't any longer.
She just finished The Dressmaker of Auschwitz and loved all
the sewing history included.
Now time for one of our long phone conversations.

Postcard to Patty

I spent several days playing upstairs this week, sketching ideas for envelopes and postcards and having a grand old time painting them.  Then--I realized that that I should have been making Christmas-themed stuff.  Always a step behind.

Books/Reading:  Another place I stay behind, oh, not on reading, but on reviewing them on my book blog.  Just finished Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult last night, and I highly recommend it.  I have a lot of books to review over at A Garden Carried in the Pocket, and I will review Wish You Were Here eventually, but it was remarkable.

This looks like fun.

    1. Today is beautiful, but the downside is 90% chance of rain for tomorrow! Oh, well, we are having an empty-nester holiday since the girls aren't here, but what a shame for big gatherings! Goodness, you are heading into winter--stay warm and cozy and enjoy the holiday!

  3. I agree, Wish You Were Here is a fabulous read! So glad your weather has cooled down. We in So.Cal go up and down during the Holiday Season with the Santa Ana Winds and fires, from the high 60's to the low 90's. You never know what you are going to get. Life is like a box of chocolates here. LOL

    1. I really loved Wish You Were Here and was not prepared for all the surprises! Good luck with the wind and fires--so dangerous. I hope retirement is still treating you well--love how you keep track of your former students!

  4. Jen, you always keep me inspired to send mail. Receiving mail is a gift at any time of year, so whether it’s seasonally decorated isn’t the most important part. But I look forward to seeing what you create during the Christmas season. I love the postcard about the crown. Ha!

    1. You know the pleasure of opening the mailbox and finding something personal. Your recent Thanksgiving cards are so pretty. Enjoy the pies you are making, Annie!

  5. Our temps have been hovering right around 48-52, which is perfect for my afternoon walks. Glad to hear that you enjoyed Jodi Picoult's latest book. I'm excited to get to it early next year. I plan to continue reading nonfiction into December since I still have a few to go for my Nonfiction challenge.

    Love that venn sign. ;)

    Happy Thanksgiving to you, Jenclair!

    1. You are having good weather! I loved Wish You Were Here, and it will be one of my favorites for the year. I'm so glad you liked The Splendid and the Vile--it is one of my favorite nonfiction WWII books. Happy Thanksgiving, Les!

  6. I'm with Edgrr and Stinker. In fact, there's a storm raging outside, and I'm curling up inside with a book!

  7. What a great idea to turn a card into a booklet/letter! I was going to make Christmas cards but decided to just go with store bought ones this year. Of course they are still in the bag! I better start working on them soon. Love your mail art and that's great that you've been spending some time on that. Nothing like turning to those things that bring us joy right?

    1. :) I do think turning the card into a booklet/letter is a great idea. Easy to do and fun! Can't help but admire all the folks that have all their Christmas cards written and gifts wrapped by Dec. 1, but I do think they are the organized few among the rest of disorganized procrastinators.

Decorating envelopes and postcards is my version of play, and it does bring me joy. :)

  8. That is beautiful mail - both incoming and outgoing. That is a great idea to turn the card into a booklet. I will be stealing that idea for sure. We had snow today - third time. Thankfully it isn't sticking yet.

    1. It really is a steal-worthy idea! I have plans to do just that. :) Well, at least the snow isn't sticking and causing problems for you yet. Snow looks great on Christmas cards, but it can be a pain in real life!
