August Approaches

I'm so proud of granddaughter Mila!  She will be working as a creative operator at Meow Wolf Denver.  I have no idea what a creative operator is, but she will start training soon, and I will find out more.

Incoming Mail

I was so glad to get this postcard today (7.30.21)!  I'd been wondering what happened to  Annie (Scribbling Glue) and it turns out her last letter went astray and I never received it.  Her postcard was checking in, just as I was wondering why I haven't heard from her in so long.

I love the embroidered landscape,

and Annie kindly included the name of the artist and her website!

My first August outgoing letter will be to Annie!

Outgoing Mail This Week:

Postcard to Teresa

Postcard to Hester

letter to Hannah

Because so many in our state are unvaccinated, it seems as if the promise of getting out more was only a brief episode.  Like many others, I find it difficult to understand the anti-vaccine, anti-mask stance. Disheartening.

I've spent some time cleaning up my messy workspace.   Now, that I've cleaned up some, I'll get back to some calm sewing and trying to ignore as much of the unpleasant news as possible.

  1. Security note: I wonder if you could rethink putting your entire current address on the blog? I usually mask the critical information with a piece of paper, for the photo. It's safer. Thst said, I love the pc, too.

    1. I've always hidden addresses of those who write to me, but have never had a problem with leaving my own address. That said, maybe I should give it consideration. :)

  3. You know I love seeing your mail. The nightmare catchers postcard is my favorite! It made me smile to see your dolls on that art card. I absolutely understand the hesitation by some to get vaccinated and to not wear masks. I was hesitant myself. I didn’t get the shot until mid June. And I have never stopped wearing a mask, but I still understand why people don’t. I won’t dive down into that rabbit hole here though. I have a pen pal that I haven’t heard back from also so I like the idea to send a quick postcard to let her know that I did write and maybe she never got the letter. Thanks for that idea.

    1. Thanks, Annie! It is a rabbit hole, and no one is really happy about the masks, but if I'm inside a store, I'm wearing mine. It was a coincidence that when Annie's (the other Annie) postcard arrived, I was thinking about sending her one to check. We've been exchanging letters for a few years now, and I was hoping all was well. A postcard to check and see if a letter has gone astray is a good idea, and it was so nice to find out that it was only a lost letter and not a problem.

    1. Thanks! Mila is excited about training and can't wait to actually see the exhibits. We were hoping to be able to visit soon, but now everything is up in the air again with Covid.

Meow Wolf sounds puzzling and intriguing!

  6. Congrats to your granddaughter! That's exciting! I also wear a mask even though I've been vaccinated. We just never stopped wearing them. I think the CDC messed up on that one. But sad to say, now they are urging everyone to mask up again. Making art and puttering in the garden is a nice escape from this world...

    1. Thanks, Debra! We are all so pleased for Mila.

I think it will be a long, slow struggle with this virus, despite initial hopes that the vaccine would mean a return to normal. Grin and Wear It is my policy. We all need ways to escape from the constant barrage of bad news, and we are lucky to have art, books, and gardens to help us negotiate the turbulence.

  7. I love all the snail-mail art! I should begin collecting unique postcards when we're on road trips and start writing to my friends and relatives rather than always relying on emails. Who doesn't love getting something in the mail?

I continue to wear a mask when I go shopping in spite of being double-vaxxed. We are planning a long trip to Nashville (in September) and feeling a little anxious about being in an area of so many who choose not to get vaccinated. Sigh...

    1. Letter writing is something I enjoy--especially receiving mail. :) There is something so special about finding a letter or a postcard that is really for you in among all the advertising, asking for money, and political missives that go right into the bag for recycling paper.

My husband and I were eager for our vaccines as soon as they became available and felt relieved immediately. It was as much an emotional burden lifted as a hope for physical safety. The masks are still a safety measure that don't bother me, especially now that this variant can be transmitted even by those who are fully vaccinated. I can understand your anxiety about your September trip, but hopefully things will improve as more people realize the importance of the vaccines and masks.

  8. Love the nightmare catcher card, glad to see it whole here because by the time it reached me, the little guys had tangled with PO equipment, and I got the bottom half of the card in one of those "Oops envelopes" from the Post Office.

    1. At least it got delivered! These days that is an advantage that doesn't always happen. :)
