La Calavera Catrina (the (Dapper Skeleton)
is a frequent symbol during Dias de los Muertos,
and so I think she is fitting for Halloween.
La Catrina has a paper clay head and a cloth body.

I'm staying busy in the studio-- a pleasant change!
She looks like she got plopped into the wrong month and that she's wondering what happened to spring. I'm sure she'll go with the flow because any girl likes to flaunt a pretty outfit - no matter what time of the year.
ReplyDeleteLa Catrina loves dressing up!
DeleteWhoa!! I'm loving her AND her cat!! She perfectly represents Dias de los Muertos celebration. How tall is she? Love her!!

Thanks, Carol! From the bottom of the stand to the tip of the tallest flower, she is a little less than 10 inches.
DeleteLove her and her cat!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sophie! La Catrina was always a "cat lady" and spoils her little feline.
DeleteI am not one for Halloween, but you have done an excellent work on this doll. I love the colors you've chosen too! The cat is cute!
ReplyDeleteShe was fun to do! I experimented with several techniques on her, which was interesting. After her body was finished, I inserted some wire in her legs so she could stand by herself. :)
DeleteOh my goodness...she's fabulous! Have a luscious fall! xo
ReplyDeleteIt really is fall, isn't it? We are still in the low 90's, but even that is appreciated. Thanks, Connie, La Catrina was an enjoyable process. :)
DeleteMy goodness, she is very dapper indeed!
ReplyDeleteLa Catrina was originally a symbol of political satire--even the wealthy come to the same end. I don't think this Catrina was rich, but she was fashion-conscious. :)
