Tornado Alley

Yesterday afternoon, (Thursday) tornados touched down everywhere.  About 4:30, they said one had touched down in our area and to take cover.  I got in the bathtub in the center of the house seconds before it hit. Wham, Bam!

Back yard, former garden...house across the drainage ditch.

Opening the front door was a bit of a surprise.

Another view of back.

Front.Side
I took these within about 5 minutes of the tornado passing.

In the final analysis we were so very lucky, but a front wall is leaning in, one side leaning out, and the other side sort of bowed.  Thursday night was our 38th anniversary...and one we will never forget.

Fee finally got home about an hour later...many roads closed, power lines down, etc. The contractor who had done some work on the house was in the area and called Fee, then came right over.  Clean up until about 9:00 last night, with storms and tornados continuing to form and touch down all over East Texas, Northwest LA, and Ark.

Up this morning for more clean up.  All day long.  Tired.  More pictures tomorrow.  :) But we are fine!

  1. OMG! You had a very close call. It looks like our house did after the hurricanes - when we lived in NC. So glad that you are ok.

  3. I'm glad to know you are ok. I hope the damage isn't too bad and insurance will help. Still scary.

My sister lived in Lake Charles when Katrina hit. Makes me more nervous when these hurricanes happen. Oddly enough, I hadn't spotted this hurricane on news in So. Cal. I do appreciate your newsworthy post and hope all is ok in your area. Please keep us posted on what is happening in your area.

  7. Thank goodness nobody was hurt! Tornadoes are more scary to me than hurricanes, although we've had 100+' oak trees down in both over the last 5 years. Good karma winging your way for a quick clean-up and repair, and no headaches with the insurance company!
