Tornado Recovery

Thanks to all of you for your concern and good thoughts!  We've all been busy cleaning, cutting up trees and hauling them out of the way, etc.  Thank goodness no one was seriously hurt in our area!

Although the tornado tugged at our roof, leaving a gap between roof and walls and 3 walls leaning in or out...you can see that a few houses down from us, it did take the roof.  It was evidently dipping down, then lifting up instead making a straight path across the ground.  Lucky for all of us!

All the rain flooded the streets, but by Friday morning, it began to drain.

Fee and I are tired, and we still have a lot of clean up and waiting ahead of us, but like the rest of our neighbors, we are grateful it wasn't worse.

  3. Debra - :) I agree! I'm much more respectful of the power of Mother Nature!

Rian - Oh, yes, it is a mess! Right now the street is lined with the corpses of all the trees that used to be in our neighborhood! It took just a few minutes to do, but the memory will linger. Not as bad as hurricanes, though! You've experienced the massive damage of that situation.

  4. Wow the power of Mother Nature!! Surely is a blessing you are alright. Sorry to see all of the lovely trees had to take a hit! Since I am too far away to help I will plant you on the prayer list. Gail Norback

  5. Thanks, Gail! I'm not at all liking the look of the street without the trees, but will get used to it, no doubt.

  6. So glad no one was hurt. It's so hard after though, cleaning up and seeing all the damage. Good luck!

  8. OH MY, OH MY! You poor thing! So glad you kept your roof & house somewhat intact. I used to have tornado nightmares, when I lived in Michigan. They don't happen here, but we have hurricane force winds every year. My tornado nightmares have been replaced with an occaisional earthquake nightmare.
    I'm glad you're OK!

  9. Deb H - We are all at the mercy of the elements, aren't we? Nature can be as fierce and destructive as she is beautiful, but we are all more resilient than we know.

  11. averyclaire - Things are looking much better around here, but very barren. Fee and I went yesterday and bought a cypress and a plum tree and planted them. Now maybe I can recognize my house!
