Friday! Not Much Planned. Again.

My brother took this picture of the eagles on our land in the country.  We've watched them for years, and watched the babies, usually two, grow up and depart.

The nest was in a dead tree, but hurricane Laura's winds took down the nest that has been there for years.  The eagles are still spotted, and we hope they will find a new nesting place near by.

Garden:  This is one lantana!  It has taken over everything--I guess the additional rain we had this year is the reason because it has never done this before.  I need to move it, but the hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies love it, and I can't bring myself to cut it back and move it until it finishes this extended bloom season.

I love the tiny "bouquet" blooms of lantana, it's resistance to heat and drought, but gosh what a summer without drought has created!

Mail: I've made more postcards, but these are the ones I sent  for World Postcard Day.  They will be postmarked Oct. 1, 2020.  I mention WPD on the backs.

  1. What a great picture of those eagles!! Every time I see one, I try to get a good photo, but I need a better zoom lens. Or they just need to get closer to me. ;)

That lantana is amazing! I used to have a couple in pots on my deck and the hummingbirds would hang out all day, enjoying the nectar. It's a heat-loving plant, isn't it?! I love the vibrant colors.

    Have a good weekend!

    1. My brother has taken advantage of the pandemic to spend more time down in the country and is becoming quite the photographer. The hummers love the lantana, and if I had a better camera, maybe I could have been getting some good pictures. Yes, lantana loves heat and does well in drought, but obviously it likes the rain we've received, too. :)

  2. Fantastic postcard mail for World Postcard Day! All of them are great. I’ll bet the kids appreciate all their mail even more now that you are not so close anymore.

    1. Thanks, Annie! I hope the kids enjoy the postcards. Being farther away and in new circumstances might make them feel more connected. I hope so!

    1. It has been a strange year for gardening. Well, it has just been a strange year. I hope your retirement has been going well. No doubt you miss the kids, but given the circumstances, I bet you are glad you aren't teaching under the new restrictions. Good to hear from you, Debra!

  4. I hate it that Laura took the Eagle nest down. I sure hope they make a new one on your property. I am always thrilled to see eagles and hawks, though my grandson has been chasing hawks away from the chickens. FB and Blogger have both changed the platform and not for the better I think. But we will persevere to learn the new ins and outs. LOVE your post cards.
    xx, Carol

    1. It is a shame, and it was in a place between a large pond and an open field so it was easy to see. Another photographer came to see them several years ago and built a platform so they could get closer to the nest for shots of the babies. We hope they will build some where we will be able to watch them again. Yep, completely disappointed with "new and improved."

  5. You are not alone with the appreciated sarcasm. I click post, and comments disappear.
The Jen Norpchen gourds are as interesting as they are well done. Her website is set up well also.
Your Lantana! I've never seen it so large.
Great photos of the eagles! I also hope they find a new nest site nearby.
Your postcards, as always, are inspirational.
    Have a good weekend.

    1. :) Jen Norpchen's gourds make me smile. I love the humorous expressions. My brother has gotten some great shots of the eagles, and so has Bill, another photographer who has been watching them for years. Hope you are having a good weekend, as well!

  6. I am loving purple and white lantana that I am trying for the first time. It is so pretty mixed in with other flowers. I have figured out that the hummingbirds are often eating the tiny white flies that seem to always be present on lantana. Your Halloween themed cards are always so much fun!

    1. I love the purple lantana, too. Unfortunately, both times I've tried it, it didn't come back the following year. Even if it is only for one year for me, I still love the purple!

    1. The eagles are rebuilding their nest, and we are so excited. I was afraid they would choose a new location and that we might not be able to find it. Yay on postcards, coming and going!
