Remember the vintage thimble I bought the other day? Well, My Aunt Debbie has an idea about how to use vintage thimbles and snaps:
Fun piece, eh? Now I'm going to have to go back through all of my vintage treasures with an eye for whimiscal uses. Ideas for for the pink shoulder straps?
Cute ideas! Thanks for the link. One of my friends embellished her wall quilt for her studio, with thimbles hung all along the bottom. They looked like little bells.
ReplyDeleteThe pink straps would look cute on the outside of a retro looking clutch purse.
deb h - I'm thinking about doing a wall quilt with some of my vintage sewing items and love the idea of hanging thimbles from the bottom!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ideas, Deb! Keep warm up there in the far North!
A friend of mine had a book on indian outfits in the Smithonian Museum. They had decorated their outfits with thimbles and other metal items. It was really fasinating with all they put on. Patty
ReplyDeletePatty - I wish I could see that outfit, but you are on to another idea about ethnic embellishment that is interesting in its own right!
ReplyDeleteI love your thimble necklace, and the other ideas are great. Such a unique piece.
ReplyDeleteCandace - The necklace isn't mine -- My Aunt Debby made it and has it for sale in her Etsy shop. I just liked it, and it reminded me of the thimble I bought a while back. Debby's creation is just sew clever!
ReplyDeleteAunty Debby's thimble necklace is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have made metal thimbles into bells, by drilling a hole in the top and adding a bead as a 'clapper.' Great for small Christmas trees, and I have one atteched to scissors with a cord so my scissors will 'ring' me when someone tries to borrow them!

Several years ago I bought a wreath ornamented with dried leaves and dried roses, using lots of vintage sewing notions (spools of thread, pincushions, thimbles, needle packs, even a pair of scissors) as embellishment. Very nice looking, even though that sort of thing isn't usually my style.
ReplyDeleteCool thimble necklace - I especially like the four nested ones in the center. Good luck with the straps... adjustable neck strap on an apron?
ReplyDeleteJudy - What a great idea! Love the bead as a clapper and attaching it to your scissors - like belling the cat!
ReplyDeleteKay - The idea of a "haberdashery wreath" appeals to me - I may do this rather than the wall hanging!
Kim - The necklace would be perfect to wear to Houston, wouldn't it? No where could it be more appreciated and enjoyed than at a quilt festival!
I'll keep the straps in mind when I get around to making that apron that has been on my list for 3 years now!
