Another weekend down at Raft Bayou. Working, mostly. Last night, after a shower and some Advil, I read and worked on some more moodling ("long inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering") :
I moodled last fall as a means of relaxing and had a great time just playing with the stitching while watching television. It was fun playing with the colors in the cabin last night and listening to Selected Shorts on NPR which featured two Eudora Welty stories.
Yesterday morning at 5:30, the sky was alight with stars: it looked like a planetarium's perfection. The Big and Little Dippers and Orion's Belt are the ones I always pick out, but the view was so spectacular that I may check out a book on constellations to be able to recognize more. Down in the country with no city light-glow, the night is very, very dark and on a clear early morning the sky was a-glitter with stars.
This morning, no luck. Overcast and no light-show. Left the cabin about 6:00 AM and home a little after 6:30. Feeling very lazy, although I have dozens of things that need to be done.
love the moodling. I really liked the cushion too
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paula. I love letting the needle show me where to go, just making it up as I go along.
ReplyDeleteit all sounds so pleasant and restful. Feeling like my entire life might be a case of moodling, so far...
ReplyDeleteFun! I've taken up some embroidery lately and find it so relaxing. Maybe some moodling's in my future :)K
ReplyDeleteI think your moodling is wonderful...I've never heard of such a thing until now. Where have I been, LOL. :)
ReplyDeleteYour bird pillow is cute as can be!
Acey - :) You do much more coherent thinking while you moodle, Acey!
ReplyDeleteKim - It is relaxing, isn't it? Much like knitting or crocheting.
Kim - I must look for the first post on moodling where I mentioned the origins. It was remiss of me not to include that link!
Wonderful fun - I'm gonna moodle on down to the studio right now!
ReplyDeleteoh I've fallen so behind (a couple weeks it seems) I too caught up in all the things october has thrown my way. I've enjoyed all the posts to last checking in and finding new books, inspiring color (love the pillow) and your latest moodling....
ReplyDeleteand how wonderful to experience so many stars in your night's sky.... since I'm a city critter, my 'everyday' life there's way too much light pollution ... but I have enjoyed the october moon (and the brightest of the stars)
That's a delightful piece, so gay and colorful. I love to star-gaze too. I live in an area that isn't very light-polluted, so we get some great starry nights. I love to see the Milky Way.
ReplyDeleteSounds like moodling brings on the same mood as hand quilting .... or perhaps it could be called 'quiltling'
ReplyDeleteKim- Three different Kims in a row! :) Moodling is such a great term, isn't it? I plan to do more today.
ReplyDeletekimy - and yet another kim! I'm having trouble keeping up, too, kimy. So much to do, so much I want to do, and thus, decisions to make.
Hasn't the October Hunter's Moon been a lovely sight?
Rian - I'd love to see the combination of sea and sky in your area! And your sunsets!
virtualquilter - Yes, I think the sense of relaxation that comes with moodling can be found with quilting, knitting, and crocheting, but moodling has less conscious direction. All of these activities allow for busy hands and a quiet mind...something to be treasured.
Hooray for moodling! Good results in this case, but it's always fun.
ReplyDeleteKay - It IS fun and relaxing, and there are no mistakes because there is no purpose!
