It was such a beautiful morning, that after planting the pansies, basil, chives, mint, etc., I took Mila's crown outside with me and finished beading the little pointy things. One bead at a time is a slow process, but I only had 2 left to finish up, so I got some sun and enjoyed the garden while I worked.
Back to the embroideries which I prefer to do while watching one of my Netflix DVD's. As soon as I typed that, I knew I wouldn't be doing anything inside. I'll take the embroideries outside to work. It is just too pretty a day to waste.

Mila Loves Pink
As usual, this crown began making its own way. Some of my original thoughts are included, but many are not. I always have lots of ideas and possible embellishments,
but then the crown kind of emerges from the chaos, shedding many ideas as it begins to shape itself.
Some of the details are taking a little time, but I'm liking the direction so far. A few more experiments to attempt--may use an elastic band in the back, but not yet sure.
Perhaps the reason I've enjoyed playing with these crowns so much is simply the fact that the possibilities and effects seem endless. Whatever theme, conjecture, fantasy comes to mind seems to become an organic thing that evolves at its own pace and in its own way.
And in the wake of its own emergence, more possibilities for future crowns...
What does this weekend hold for you?

Friday, Already?
I've been delaying cutting into the Kaffe Fassett fat quarter because I love it and was afraid my idea for Mila's crown may not work. Yesterday, I bit the bullet and cut into the fabric, sewed, and stuffed these pieces.
Played with covering wire with ribbon and one of the cords I made. Don't know if I'll use them now or not, but it was fun bending them into various shapes.
And these twigs and grasses? I have plans for them, too.
Poor little mouse. Edgar loves him and will only let Stinker and Lucy play with him for brief periods. He is such an alpha male.
Another week has flown by. I have so much to get done today, but hope to have time to work on my projects as well.
Have a great weekend!

The Queen Bee
Finished Bryce Eleanor's crown. I like the raw-edge of tight pleats I added to the top.
I needle felted the bee, then added beads and wings.
Added some ribbon to the cording I made.
Isn't it National Craft Month? I'm certainly in the crafty mood.

What's Up?
Almost finished with Bryce Eleanor's crown. Just need to add a closure. Will post pictures later today.
These little hair clip covers are in process. Felted roving for the bunnies and greenery and regular felt for the carrots.
Some possibilities for Mila's crown...

I'm need to get back to the white crown. This is where I stopped about a week ago and just stuffed the possible embellishments into a plastic bag with the base fabric.
Since I was just experimenting, I'm not sure if I can use this or will have to begin again with an actual shape for the crown. However, it will have to wait until I finish the embroideries, hair clips, and Mila's crown.
And then there are some dolls I want to make, and Amelia wants chair sashes.
What are you up to? What are you creating?

Blue Flower Crown--
finished...I think. Unless I decide to add more beads later.
I added a button, yo yo, and tassel of fabric strips to the back.
Three more in process or in imagination. Working on Bryce Eleanor's and Mila's slowly. Not knowing where I'm going and frequent pauses to think (and re-think and to search for new possible embellishments or to make them) slow me down. My original ideas undergo drastic changes as I work on them.
Where did the inspiration for these crowns come from? Well, I've seen crowns all over the blog world for some time, but until I saw the ones at Carnets d'une Marraine (Notebooks of a Godmother), crown-making was only one item on my wish list. When I saw the crowns made by Marraine's readers, however, I fell in love.
Aren't they wonderful and creative? Her readers had so many delicious interpretations, and I think they are all brilliant.
Anyone else willing to give it a try?

WIP- blue flowers
I've been working on these little blue flowers, making yo yo's, and tearing some fabric strips; will use at least some of them for the blue crown.
Max's crown is finished, but I haven't taken a picture yet. Have made a little felt bee for Bryce Eleanor's crown and some pink flowers that I may use for Mila's, but haven't started those yet. The white crown items are just sitting together in a basket while I decide what to do next.
Made some more cording yesterday. Making the items to decorate the crowns is the fun part, and I make things then set them aside, not sure if I'll even use them. Sometimes I lose them and then have to search. Lost the small plastic bag that I put the bee, felting needle, wing material, etc. in and spent quite a bit of time trying to locate the bag.
It might help if I'd take the time to clean up again and get a bit better organized!

Having my studio upstairs and the computer downstairs means that I run up and down the stairs dozens of times: for the camera, or the camera card, for the thimble I left next to my chair, for a snack, just to take a break...
There is also no bathroom upstairs and no sink, so when I get a bit grungy from digging through the attic for items I haven't unpacked or can't find, these come in handy...

Snips and snails...
and puppy dog tails, that's what little boys are made of...and puppies love bones, so with the embellisher and some needle felting (drawing blood, of course, as I always manage to hit my fingers when I needle felt--fortunately, fingers are safer with the embellisher), I worked on creating a bone for Max's crown.
Almost done!
Almost done!
