June Happenings

Still playing with the Nightmare Catchers.

Some of them have lavender buds wrapped in black net, then stuffed in their "backpacks" and some have their backpacks sewn shut.  I'm going to go back and get rid of the net and have all of the lavender sewn shut in the backpacks.

Most will be little gifties.  They are fun to make, and for me, they are sort of therapy/meditation dolls because the very act of sewing and embellishing them is calming.  Again, they have been inspired the Nightmare Catcher on the K-drama It's OK Not to Be OK, Junker Jane, and scraps and tidbits I hold on to.

I have some mail to answer.

 Books/Reading:

I've reviewed all but two of these on my other blog.

Waking up an hour earlier than usual cuts depression risk by double digits! (Source)

  1. Love that springchicken cartoon! And, I'm trying to wake up by 7am, which isn't difficult if the windows are open and I can hear the birds singing to one another. My internal clock, however, would be much happier if I stayed in bed another hour.

    1. I usually wake up between 6 and 6:30, but I will keep the idea of waking earlier in mind if I feel a depression approaching. Worth a try :) One thing that is especially nice about retirement is waking when I'm ready, and not by alarm!

  2. Jen, your little nightmare catchers are so cute and so fun! I always love seeing your mail. I have been an early riser all my life. Up between 4am-5am. I love it when everyone else is sleeping and I have the house and the early morning world all to myself.

    1. Thanks, Annie! These little eccentrics have been fun to make, using scraps and those "bits and bobs" that get saved from other projects or just busy stuff. My husband has always been an early riser, and I sleep on for hours after he's up and gone to the office. There is something about having the house to himself, too. :)

    1. Every single time I make an attempt to organize, I end up with another project and a bigger mess. It's frustrating! I'm glad you are making progress, Iliana. Maybe you will inspire me to try again!

  6. I LOVE your little catchers! Each one is so different and they have personalities! Such a wonderful project. I have been getting housework out of the way so I can finally do something FUN. I have plans to make fabric braceletts and embroider them and applique designs on them. Also I want to make more birds. And try to get back to painting. Lots of plans!!!

    1. Thanks, Diane! Each little monster has a mind of its own. :) Sometimes I think about telling someone and then I'm not sure later if I actually did tell them! And sometimes conversations take such unexpected turns that the opportunity to say what I'd been thinking is lost!
