I thought the Monarchs were gone, that they had made their way to South Texas or all the way to Mexico. Then every day for the last few days, more passed through. :)
The skeleton doesn't always find a convenient place, but this year he did.
They spend most of their time sleeping.
I love letters written by old friends, blog friends, and family. I also enjoy historical letters and epistolary novels. I especially love young people who write letters. When I saw this article, my admiration for these young girls
and their correspondence provided an extra zest to my day.
What creativity and commitment. :)

I haven't seen a monarch in a week or so. When I was a girl, I had several pen pals which was oh-so-much fun. I also hope young folks will, once again, pick up pen and paper and write letters.
ReplyDeleteWe got a little "cold" front (I know that's funny for many states, but lows in the 50's), and I haven't seen a Monarch today. Yes, having friends to correspond with is fun, and I hope young people will see the pleasure in this form of communication. Those little girls are adorable!
DeleteI love all your great Halloween decorations! I feel like I need to find myself a “Skellie” friend to keep company with. The article about the fairy tree is a unique idea. I didn’t quite make sense of all of it, but what’s important is people believe. I’ve been scrolling up and down, up and down enjoying all your mail. Your outgoing Halloween mail is awesome! I’m loving looking at it all.
ReplyDeleteAfter Halloween I hang the Skellie back in the laundry room with a Santa hat on. :) Have you read
DeleteSorcery & Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot: Being the correspondence of two Young Ladies of Quality regarding various Magical Scandals in London and the Country?
A delightful mystery and correspondence!
My goodness, what a welter of wonderful written work you've received!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet (and inspiring) story about the fairy letters!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see someone mention monarchs, I immediately think of Barbara Kingsolver's novel, Flight Behavior. Have you read it? I thought it was one of her best books and plan to read it again someday.
Have a good week!
The fairy letters do make me happy for the girls and their enterprise. No, I haven't read Flight Behavior, and I love Kingsolver's writing. Thanks for mentioning that Les!
DeleteIt is sweet to have pen pals. I started writing to people in Korea when I was a teenager. We eventually stopped and now I am not as consistent with my correspondence. I saw your book recommendation above and was wondering if you have read the Griffin and Sabine series. I liked the artwork in their correspondence.
ReplyDeleteI am not always prompt with my letter writing, but I do get a kick out of making Halloween postcards and sending out a bunch. Yes, I did read the Griffin and Sabine series and adored it. Nick Bantock must have had such a good time creating the books, and I love the mysteriousness of the correspondents and their letters!
DeleteGreat Cards!! I really like that last meme. I saved it to Pinterest. Gosh I love those little girls!
ReplyDeletexx, Carol
Thanks, Carol! That last meme reminds me of how often, when I listen to my daughters, I'm called on to re-think, re-evaluate my opinion. :) The little girls are an inspiration, aren't they? Hope the mountain is treating you well!
DeleteLove all the cards you made and received! I saw some monarchs just this past week. I too thought they were already gone. So excited to see them.
