Laura was a monster storm. Lake Charles and surrounding areas were devastated. Here in our little northwest corner of the state, we were lucky that Laura veered a little to the east instead of directly over Shreveport/Bossier. Although Laura weakened before she got up this far, she was still classified as a hurricane and some suffered significant damage. I don't think we've ever had a hurricane still in force by the time it reached this far inland.
State wide damage is awful. The storm was so large it covered the entire state--an even larger storm than Katrina. Although the storm surge and rain were not as bad as predicted, when you lose your home and employment as so many did, the effects are beyond words.
So thankful that friends and family have all come through this and that evacuations saved so many lives. Prayers for those who suffered the worst. Could hardly have been a worse time for such a disaster than in the middle of a pandemic and economic crisis.
Thanks to all who called, texted, commented! We are just fine and feel very lucky.
