This, That, and the Other

Between gardening and glaucoma surgery (laser in office, yea for modern medicine!), I've not been keeping up with quite a few things.  My eye was red, uncomfortable, tender, and scratchy for about four days, but so much better now.  The other eye will go under the laser in another week or so.

The pollen in the air at this time of year covers everything and has not done either eye any favors.  Around here almost everyone is dealing with the effects--tissues  in pockets, sneezes in elbows, yada, yada.  Spring brings the usual allergies along with the flowers.

Another letter from Carol Ann, the day after I sent a response to her last letter.

Notice that the P.O. didn't cancel her stamp!
Because of its location, it could have received the
dreaded Strike Through, but a kindly worker left it alone.

to Mary Marcotte
Mary of Fleur de Lis Quilts has written a book.
More on that later.

I finished this piece a couple of months ago and glued it to the barrette.

It works great!

So, yeah, another one.

bad photo, but this barrette works as well as the first.

During the February snow, I threw bird seed into the snow when getting to the feeders was awkward.  Now--sunflower seedlings everywhere.  I've pulled a bunch, but I'll let some continue to grow.

Edgrr loves the lemon grass--which we bought for him
(and yes, because I like it, too)

Namaste!

  1. Love your always inspiring mail...Inspiring to make and send as well as receive. And to make it look interesting and fun. I notice in my mail that stamps are quite often untouched of cancellation marks of any kind. Your barrettes are fantastic! Beautiful hair accessories. Love Edgrr. And love the spelling of his name.

    1. I don't mind a cancellation mark, especially if I can read the date, but I don't like the strike through with a pen that occasionally happens. Edgrr is a lovely fellow, friendly and full of himself, he expects everyone to like him.

  4. The barrettes are beautiful but your hair is just glorious! My hair is almost as long as yours. For some odd reason I have not turned gray yet-so people either think I dye my hair or that I'm not 66. The thing is-I LOVE gray hair and I will never dye my hair!!! I've never understood the taboo of having gray hair!! My grandma had the most wonderful curly white hair...My mom, 89, still has some dark hair amongst her gray-and it's lovely, full hair-so pretty. And I also don't understand that unwritten OLD rule that once you pass a certain age-your hair must be short!!! Crazy! I LOVE your peanut gallery drawing! And Edgrr! So sorry this is so long :)

    1. Thanks, Debra! My grandfather was completely white-headed by thirty, but I didn't get that gene. I have a friend whose haired turned white early, not grey, white and I envied it. Still do, it's beautiful.

Having to visit a salon for monthly cut/style/color sounds awful to me as I'm a bit of a recluse anyway. And lazy, to boot. Long hair is much easier, isn't it?

    2. Yes! Some years ago in a crazy stupor, I let someone cut off my hair. It was Short! I never ever had so much trouble keeping it the way it should be-I hated it, my husband hated it...I vowed to never cut it again!

  5. My husband and I both have glaucoma and he had the laser procedure and I've opted to use the eye drops. Once I'm on Medicare, I'll have the laser done.

Beautiful barrette! I used to use barrettes a lot when my hair was longer, but it's been a few years. Your hair is so beautiful. Lovely color!

We get a lot of those little sunflower sprouts thanks to the Blue Jays that scatter seed as they greedily empty our feeders.

    1. I tried the drops and they were so uncomfortable. I could have tried another brand to see if they wouldn't burn so much, but went ahead with the laser. Next week, the left eye and then done for a while. When you get your laser treatment, don't spend much time outside during pollen season! Big mistake. :)

  6. Hey, Jenclaire! Thanks for the card and the shout out about the book. Glad to hear that your eye is feeling better. My allergies are driving me crazy, so I'd hate to think of anything worse.
    Love, love, love the card!

    1. Thanks, Rachel! The only way I can watch Netflix shows is if I have a little handwork. Don't know what's up with that, but it has been that way for years now. At least these little projects have been useful. :)

  8. This is a lovely varied blogpost. How nice to see your mailart which we don't seem to do here in the UK.
Your barrettes are fabulous and good to see the photo with the threads (pearl cotton?) used. They are so complex. Edgrr? - is that the right spelling?- if so it is a marvellous smooth name for a cat, and of course you had to buy lemon grass if that is what he likes.

    1. Thanks, Sheila! Yes, pearl cotton size 8 on the barrettes. :) Edgrr, or at times, Edgrrrrrr! is a legend in his own mind. He likes lemon grass and laps and is a laidback kind of fellow as long as he gets the attention he deserves.

  9. Good luck with your next laser surgery. It has changed my life. Post surgery, I could see without glasses or contacts for the first time in 60 years! I'm not sure the results with the multi-focus lens are as good as advertised but then I was so blind. I actually prefer to wear glasses on Zoom meetings, otherwise, so many lines and circles around my eyes. Your hair has gotten so long! The barrettes look great, wearable art--and mailable art, too. Continue to enjoy the spring. I'm just ignoring the fact that everything is yellow.

    1. I had the vision surgery years ago and still appreciate not having to wear contacts! This surgery is for glaucoma--medical science has come a long way, for which we can all be grateful. :) Everything is yellow, isn't it? The car, the plants, anything that doesn't move accumulates pollen. A yearly phenomenon that adds an edge to spring.
