Outgoing

postcard to young Zoe

Pandemically Speaking.  Unfortunately, reopening has not gone as smoothly as many hoped.  At any rate, cases have drastically increased in the South and West have clouded our future.  Again.

I worry about how schools will respond, how businesses will survive, how farmers will fare...and all of the endless chain of human activity. I'm OK.  I'm retired and have books and crafts and letters and the garden and the internet.  Not everyone has those advantages.

Truthfully, even in Phase 2 of the reopening, I have never come out of isolation mode with the exception of a grocery store trip now and again or going to get my checkup for refilling my thyroid medication.  At first it was a little difficult even for a stay-at-home like me, but I've adjusted.  Now, however, with cases again on the increase, I can't help but wonder how society as a whole is going to deal with even longer periods of caution.

  1. I love your postcards. You are so creative!

Like you, we really haven't come out of isolation other than two eye appointments and one mammogram. We still get take-out, but have yet to dine-in at a restaurant (even those with outdoor seating). We aren't traveling and we aren't having anyone visit. I am so thankful we are retired, but I worry about all of those people who still have to work, take care of their children and figure out the schooling situation this fall. I won't be the least bit surprised if we're still voicing these same concerns in a year. Sadly, this could have all been prevented, had all states shut down and enforced a full lockdown. It's out of control now and I don't see it getting any better any time soon. Pessimistic or realist? On the plus side, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of toilet paper anymore. ;)

    1. Thanks, Les. I have so much fun with decorating mail. :)

It is sad and confusing that things have gotten so much worse. We are all worried about the same things and unsure of what will happen next. The uncertainty and lack of confidence are through the roof right now. So many lost opportunities.

  2. We, too, are staying put, apart from grocery shopping. As you say, it's not by any means over yet... Stay safe, and keep making!

  3. We are doing the same too. I only go out for grocery store runs every week or so. It's so scary to see what's going on out there and I do feel so bad for the small business. Hopefully we can flatten this curve!

    1. We have to do better. This latest drastic increase is a warning that in order to ever get back to anything close to normal, we will have to be careful, responsible, and considerate of others.

    1. Thanks, Annie! Letters are still a way to combat social distancing and stay-at-home precautions. :)

  5. I'm like you, I have so many hobbies that I'm never bored or restless. We also have a neighborhood with lots of comings and goings. Today the librarian at Creswell Elementary, a friend of mine, delivered over 30 boxes of children's books for our Little Free Library. Books always cheer me up. The world outside our bubble has gone slap-a** crazy though.

    1. I found this comment in my moderation section! I don't know why it didn't show up like usual. Yay for librarian friends who share. They are gold. :)

  6. We had been having trouble with our generator but it's fixed now!! We were holding our breath that our electricity wouldn't go out when we were having all those storms (now a distant memory).

    1. Generators are a blessing in so many situations. Your neighborhood has all those wonderful old trees that can be a problem during storms--a generator could be a practical thing to have!
