Reading/Books
You Are What You Read by Jodie Jackson. Nonfiction about the effect of the barrage of negative news and how to be more critical in your selection of news. I'm trying to look for more solution based journalism--the kind that addresses problems, but also looks at possible solutions to them.
and a bunch more because I can't help myself--I'm a greedy reader, mixing fiction and nonfiction; mystery, fantasy, historical fiction, science fiction. Almost anything.
Garden
In between the terrible storms that seem to continue week after week, we have had some good gardening weather, and I've been taking advantage when I can. Mostly weeding.
guara, and I've found 3 volunteers in the garden :)
I wanted to catch her rolling around like a kitten,
but no, she doesn't want to show her less sophisticated side.
Hope most of you have avoided some of the terrible storms and are having a lovely spring!
I love your Japanese maples!! x
ReplyDeleteI love them, too, and hope to shepherd them through another blistering summer. :)
DeleteCats know when they're being watched! And yes, the Japanese maples are looking lovely!
ReplyDeleteYes, cats are very perceptive of any attention, aren't they? The Japanese maples have such varied shapes--we have six in the back yard, and they are all different. :)
DeleteYour Japanese maples are beautiful. Are they all in pots? At one time I had a half-dozen of them, but one strange year we had a very late hard freeze that killed them all. I never replaced them. Most volunteers are welcome in my garden (but not all). Guara would be I should think. It is already putting on quite a show in your garden. And, finally, I continue to be so impressed with your incoming and outgoing mail. Some people are just so creative!
ReplyDeleteMost of the Japanese maples are in pots so I can get them out of the sun part of the day during the summer. The two that are in the ground are much taller and more acclimated to the heat in our area. About volunteers, the guara and milkweed volunteers are welcome, but many other volunteers are not! I find a few poison ivy invaders each year and dispatch them with great care. :)
DeleteYou are What you Read is such an intriguing premise! And these pics are so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've finished it, but haven't reviewed it yet. There is no doubt that the constant aggressive and negative news has an effect on our mental health. Jackson hopes that people will begin to be more critical in their approach to news and that maybe news will forego some of the "entertainment" quality that is so current.
