Mailboxes

The mailboxes in our neighborhood are uniform in appearance and placement.  They are dull until you open them, and hopefully, find a personal letter or mailart postcard inside.

There are, however, some unique, artful,
tacky, and unusual mailboxes
around the world that
draw attention and smiles regardless of the contents.

My favorite is this tiny Valentine of a maibox:

  1. We don't have mailboxes much over here, and it is always a treat, somehow, to see them when I travel!

    1. Most areas have very plain, utilitarian mailboxes, but it amuses me to see the creative ways some people decorate their mailboxes. When I was young, most mailboxes were at the door, but now, at least in our area, most are on the street with easy access for the little mail vans. It eliminates a lot of walking for postmen in our extreme heat and humidity!

  2. The double boxes for "Inbox and Spam" crack me up!. The old fisherman is great too. I love watching for unique and fun mailboxes when traveling around. Rows of boxes in the country are my favorite. Each is in a wonderful state of condition depending on it's longevity of existence. I'm the same way about signs.

    1. I love that double box! My uncle was a farmer/postman in a rural area, and I remember riding with him once when he delivered the mail--I'd almost forgotten about that! What I do remember is a lot of dust, not the mailboxes themselves. :)

When I post again, I have a mailbox photo from my garden. It'll be sometime next week....

  4. We have those ugly cluster boxes. I like a mail box that has character. I should put up one of the old fashioned for the fun of it. Our HOA would have a fit, and we'd have to pay a fine, and I'd likely end up in jail needing bail. I wonder if anyone would write to me then? *sigh* I guess I'll never know. :D

    1. Yep, we have a HOA, too. I'm thinking I won't take the risk of a piggy mailbox, but like you, I love those mailboxes with character. They make me smile!
