How Long Has It been? Quarantine Day??

I'm back to writing letters, after about a month of missing the process.  Part of the reason is that the USPS needs us to buy stamps and to send letters and postcards, but there is also the fact that I've missed writing letters and decorating envelopes.  I have some unanswered letters from before the lockdown, but I've received several more in the last week. Leaving the letters in isolation for three days or so only heightens my anticipation to open and read them.

Postcards to the grands went out today, and maybe tomorrow I will have something else for the mailbox.

Reading:  Blood on the Tracks by Barbara Nickless, No Woods as Dark as These by Randall Silvis, The Book of Koli by M.R. Carey, Shadows of the Dead by Spencer Kope, and just finished Sharon Bolton's latest book Split.  I have a couple of nonfiction books that I started, but have been unable to concentrate on lately, so mysteries and thrillers.

Embroidery:  I started this two weeks ago and haven't worked on it since.  I have a bunch more quotes that I intended (still intend?) to include.  The incomplete quote: "Poetry is thoughts that breathe, and words that burn."  --Thomas Gray   I thought this would keep me occupied, but for some reason, it fell on the back-burner.

After all, there are so many things to keep up with, including feeding the cats and the birds.

    1. Aren't the merit badges great? I remember being so proud of my Girl Scout badges, these are a timely substitute. :)

  2. It's all very peculiar, isn't it! Especially putting letters in quarantine...

    1. Life has taken a peculiar turn, and I can't even begin to predict what happens next, but I'm certainly going to continue my letter writing. :)

  3. Love those merit badges! I like your embroidery piece, but I understand losing the motivation to work on it. I am sure you will get back to it when you are ready.

    1. I almost feel like making a merit badge to wear, if I could drum up the energy. I don't think I'll be learning ZOOM, though. :)

  4. The merit badges are hilarious. I was so busy working one day last week that I definitely could have earned the got dressed by 3pm. Thank goodness no video calls that day! So glad you are back to doing mail. I just read a bit on the USPS website that according to the CDC and the WHO there is no evidence of the virus being spread through the mail but I think it's a good call to wait a bit more and that way you can enjoy your mail!

    1. I'm accumulating my share of merit badges. :) I don't mind waiting a day or two to open a letter and just the pleasure of finding a postcard or letter in the mailbox brings a spark to my day!

  5. I love the Thomas Gray quote! I'll have to add it my journal.
I have no idea how you are waiting three days to open anything. Even the bills are opened right away. But we social distance. Somehow it's supposed to make sense. Hand washing is my only real defense.
I agree the merit badges are my favorite. May I share? My sister needs a little humor (cancer is terrifying) and both of her girls were scouts.

  6. Love the merit badges. I need to design some for myself. I need to get some snail mail out to folks. It's been a couple weeks since I wrote a few letters, but I did send a snail mail birthday card to a great-nephew this week. I actually donned my mask and went to the PO for stamps last week. I love the quotes about poetry, too. I need to write the Thomas Gray quote down so I'll remember it. I decided I wasn't going to redesign my blog site anytime soon, so after months of procrastination, I wrote another post based on a timed writing from a writing group I belong to, now meeting via Zoom. I haven't earned my Zoom badge yet. I just click on the invitation to the Zoom meeting in my email.
