No...it was a tea party in a box! From Anna at Billet Doux & Little Mercuries, and it was amazing! How else to describe the contents--everything needed for a tea party to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday. I'm still in awe at everything packed into this small box.
When I recovered, I threw a table cloth on the little outdoor table
and began setting up.
Love the teapot impression!
It was so hot!
My weather app said 90 with a heat index of 106 degrees!
Louisiana humidity can be brutal.
This is the kind of humidity that fogs your glasses
and the camera lens as soon as you step outside.
I ended up gathering things back up and coming inside.
See the gorgeous cup and saucer and the cupcake picks!
Teabags and sugar cubes.
Anna included this photo of her own tea party. See the banner,
Since there are 6 cups,
I'm hoping everyone else was toasting the Queen
as I was and wishing her a very Happy Birthday.
Don't you love that tablecloth, the parasol, the lacy pillows!
I have a hard time imagining all the effort Anna went to for this tea party--so many details! To make and package all the edibles, print the invitations, write the letters, make the little cupcake pics (oh, I love those little pics), it seems overwhelming.
My little cup is sitting in pride of place near the door and provides such a cheerful reminder of the best tea party I've ever attended. It was a quiet tea party, but the voices in my head were plentiful and grateful. Thank you, Anna!
It was a busy weekend: a glorious tea party, Father's Day, and a visit from my friend from New Orleans! Oh, and a little rain that let all that humidity turn into something to feed the flowers.
I have to say, you had wildly different weather to us celebrating in Britain!
ReplyDeleteI hope yours was cooler and dryer, Rachel!
DeleteWell, I don't think there could be a more delightful surprise than this lovely tea party of one and many!
ReplyDeleteIt was a stunning surprise, but such a delightful one!
DeleteThis was an exceptional surprise package! You were so lucky...I'm sure it made your day or week or month....
ReplyDeleteQueen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are amazing treasures still...even in their 90's or especially because they are so active at 90 and 95!
PS: I don't know how you handle the humidity!
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are pretty amazing. My husband and I were having a discussion not long ago about the vitality of some of the people who reach their 90's, and these two are great examples!
DeleteAs for the humidity, it seems worse this summer, but I know when my glasses fog up when I step out early in the morning that the garden will go untended!
I enjoyed my visit to Anna's blog. After reading your blog and visiting hers it occurred to me that both of you find so much joy in the art you create. I can imagine how much fun Anna had creating your tea party and her excited anticipation waiting to hear your reaction when you opened it. I had a sense of how much you loved the thoughtfulness of Anna preparing and sending you the party.
ReplyDeleteYou are both two joyful people! I loved this post.
xx, Carol
I know! I kept thinking about how far in advance Anna had to make her plans and create all the tea party accessories. This was truly an amazing experience!
DeleteABSOLUTELY SMASHING, MY DEAR!!!!!
ReplyDelete:) Oh, yes! Completely out-of-the-blue!
DeleteWhat a fantastic surprise. I love it and all the goodies are so cool.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
It was such an original way to celebrate the Queen's birthday!
DeleteThat wasn't done overnight. It took her a while to collect each and every item. And, don't you know she had a blast doing it? What fun!
ReplyDelete:) It was great fun and an undertaking I would never attempt! It was unbelievable all that she included in that tiny box!
DeleteWhat fun! I know you had a blast setting up, twice! Too bad our humidity is so overwhelming. Your little table in the garden was a perfect spot with the green and the dappled sunlight. Of course, having the vapors while at tea won't do, so you were right to move indoors. You and Anna both have a great sense of fun and know how to share it. Love your post!
ReplyDeleteFrom the pictures, it isn't possible to tell about the heat. It looks like early morning, but it was after around 12:30. I wasn't expecting it to be that bad, but inside in the ac was much more pleasant!
