Finished the quilting, finally. It isn't great, but so much better than what I ripped out. Made the binding and applied it before going to yoga last night, so that I could do the hand stitching while watching television when I got home.Got about half the hand stitching done.
Have any of you watched Fox's new show Lie to Me ?
I was so disappointed that it wasn't on last night, evidently the next episode is March 4. The show is based on Paul Ekman's research into facial expressions and what they reveal.
I'd read about Ekman's research last month in Blink ( reviewed here on my book blog) and found it fascinating. What synchronicity that the new television show premiered shortly after I'd read about about Ekman's research!
Our facial expressions and body language are often involuntary, and Ekman has categorized hundreds of minute expressions that can last for less than a second, but that can reveal much more than we realize. Ekman's Diogenes Project research shows that reading these "microexpressions" can be reliable in determining whether or not a person is telling the truth; his research has made him one of the preeminent psychologists of the 20th century.
Anyway, the new series is fascinating, and you can watch previous episodes here. You can also take a test that shows how well you can read "microexpressions" here. Remember that the expressions are very, very quick!
I have watched the show and think, for the most part, that it is pretty good. It kind of reminds me of The Mentalist too--the character in that show relies on visual cues to solve mysteries too.
ReplyDeleteI really love the way you include other interests with your quilt updates. I always know there will be worthwhile links and it's funny how often these things come up in conversation - or I introduce them myself during a lull.
ReplyDeleteI love red and turquoise combined. Thought I might get weary of it as it was so popularized a few seasons back but, nope, I still love it.
Well,I took the test and scored a "below average" 68%...but I noticed I more often thought people were lying than not..so I guess I'm a bit cynical...I do have trust issues...=-(
ReplyDeleteLove the quilting! I never have had the guts to do a meander like that...
Debra - I don't believe I'm observant enough!
ReplyDeleteACey - The red and aqua wasn't entirely intentional...but I love the combination. I was looking for a solid that I had enough of for borders and the aqua fit the bill.
Debby - I couldn't even catch the expressions they were so quick on one of the tests!
I did 65%, pretty bad I guess. I always felt I had a good feel for when people were lying to me. I better work on that!
ReplyDeleteI did horribly on those tests. I have Blink right now from the library, if I could only find time to read it...
ReplyDeleteLisa - Join the club! It appears that none of us are very good at detecting lies. I already knew that about myself...the only way I can detect a lie is if I know information to the contrary.
ReplyDeleteDeborah - When they were young, I almost always believed what my daughters told me ("I'm going to the mall.") Fee was the one who could detect the falsehoods. Obviously, we all need a little work in that department.

ReplyDeletei haven't seen the new show, but like the idea and concept. reminds me of the character kathryn dance who jeffery deaver created. she appears first in the cold moon (one of the lincoln rhyme books) then deaver wrote a book where she's the main character (I'm hoping this means he's starting a new series!)
ReplyDeletelove the fact that one can see shows now on the computer....seems as if I always miss 'my shows'
kimy - Yes! I'd forgotten about Kathryn Dance! I haven't read the stand alone, but she's "co-starred" in one of the Lincoln Rhymes novels and been mentioned in at least one other.
