There were several rows left over when I finished this quilt. Sewing up a tube from one of them made a perfect cover for a spring-loaded curtain rod. Stuck the curtain road between 2 door frames in a narrow hall with clips to hang the quilt. The clips make it easy to flip the quilt to show the back, and the tube slides off if I want to change quilts.
Latest project - scrappy hot pads, oven finger mitts, and an oven glove. Thanksgiving made me look at the shape of my hot pads, which are a bit stained and dingy even after washing. Poor things have been around too long. I'd purchased some insulbrite a few months ago...the last time I paid attention to the sad condition of my hot pads. Yesterday, I made 2 hot pads out of fabric scraps, experimented with patterns and procedures for oven finger mitts, and made a pattern for a glove to fit my hand.
what a brilliant idea about the display rod, Jen!
ReplyDeleteYou're so far ahead of me with the hotpads project. I'm still in the phase where I periodically think about buying the insulbrite ;)
Very nice way to display your quilt! Thanks for the link to the advent calendar - already spent too much time there.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt and the hanging method - very nice and neat!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent to have your piece hanging! and you without any decorating enthusiasm. Bah, humbug!
ReplyDeleteI like the unique rod cover. And I love the quilt. The colors are incredible. (I have to come up with a new adjective!)
ReplyDeleteYour Quilt, which I love, looks great hanging that way. That's an idea worth borrowing. Jen
ReplyDeleteVery Gee's Bend, that quilt! And I also like the hanging idea. I use adjustable cafe curtain rods to hang quilts on the wall, but in the hall way is a neat idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nifty idea for display--and no walls were harmed in this stunt! Nancy J. Martin was on "Simply Quilts" yesterday, showing her house and how she uses quilts to decorate. She had put an old-fashioned picture rail (just a narrow strip of molding nailed to the wall and painted the wall color) on the wall of her foyer staircase. From it she hung quilts on brass poles by just setting large brass "S" hooks at each end of the poles and hooking them onto the picture rail. I like that idea because you can vary the size quilts displayed and not have to mess up the walls. Yours is a good idea too!
