Friday Thoughts

Mila will be fifteen in a couple of weeks
and her new haircut makes her look so grown up!
From kid to young lady in the space of two weeks--
she doesn't look anything like the girl
in the Mituna costume for comic-com.

She and Max will be visiting next week
while Erin attends her Louisiana School reunion
in Natchitoches.  (pronounced Nack i tish)

More Whatevers

In my head, my style is intuitive and organic,
which sounds so much better than haphazard and lazy.
:)
I like ripping some small muslin pieces
and having the frayed edges.

Right now, I'm experimenting with quotes--
whether stem stitching or back stitching
works better, how many strands of floss to use...

Another little piece with
round after round of stitch.

  1. Oh my gosh, your granddaughter is gorgeous but so grown-up looking. That's what happens when you turn your back for a minute. I love the quotes you are stitching!

    1. I mean, really, two weeks ago she was just a kid! The quotes ring true, don't they? :)

  2. You cannot have a granddaughter that old! She is beautiful. And I love the quotes. Thanks for the correct pronunciation. I've been saying it wrong always!

    1. I know! How did that happen! I'm having trouble believing Mila is almost fifteen....

Natchitoches is a lovely old town on the Cane River. Lots of history associated with it. Not to be confused with Nacogdoches, TX (nack i doh chiss)--which also has interesting history. Both were settled in the 1700's and named for indigenous tribes.

  3. I like the "reading until I feel better" idea - I've been known to do that myself a time or two!

    1. :) Yes, reading can be an antidote to both physical and emotional discomfort!

  4. Lovely granddaughter! Wonderful stitchings- and I thank you for the pronunciation too-because it was a real mystery to me!

  5. Oh geez, those darned kids grow up so fast. My experience is I keep thinking of them as they were when they were little. I have spent the last year realizing that my oldest grandson is really a man now of 22. I raised him most of the time from birth and have finally figured out that he does need my opinion unless asked for it, lol. I like your little stitcheries and LOVE frayed fabrics, though NOT loving frayed block quilts. I especially like items created with frayed denium.

    Happy Mother's Day.
    xx, Carol

  7. I love Brian Andreas' cards. I used to see them all over but lately they've been sort of scarce -- probably everyone else discovered him *smile*. Lovely to see a child going into young adult status.

    1. I love them, too! I have one of Andreas' sculptures from recycled wood on the patio, but it is usually the text of his works that keeps me looking at his stuff!
