All American Red Heads 1936-1986
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this video! Found via Bless Your Hearts, a recent blog discovery that sometimes makes me chortle and sometimes makes me scratch my head and ponder a while.
Back to the video...this is just amazing. I'd never heard of a professional women's basketball team. Get back you Harlem Globe Trotter Fans and watch these women!
I have a tendency to want to do anything that looks like fun to me, thus my forays into Tai Chi and Yoga well into my second half-century of life, and my great desire and great regret that I really am to old to risk breaking bones in Roller Derby like my oldest daughter. I would have wanted to play professional women's basketball had I seen this when the All American Red Heads were touring.
Erin, they all dyed their hair red, so you would have fit right in!
I found lots of links on line if you are interested in more info. My thanks to Ms. Moon for sharing her sister-in-law's connection and the video! You go, Brenda!
Glad you like the video on the All American Red Heads. That was my film and had someone create it for me and the players to give an idea of what they were like.

John, I'm so glad that you shared your film! I've watched it several times, and it makes me smile each time. I found lots of info on line and think the Red Heads an amazing group of women. Thanks for the additional link and thanks again for this amazing video!
ReplyDeleteI once saw them at Southern Colorado State University (now part of CSU). It was in the days when womens sports didn't get much funding. They played as part of a fund raiser for womens sports.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to have seen them. I love this video and have watched it several times because it make me smile!
