I noticed an observer while sitting outside this morning. He seemed to think if he remained very still, he would be invisible. Slowly moving out of my chair, I came inside, found Fee's camera, and came back out. He's still there, doesn't move. Darn! The camera won't work! Oh, the card is in the computer. Back inside, get the card, put it in the camera, knowing all along that baby rabbit will have departed before I get back. No, he's still there posing. I take a picture through the foliage, then move around and snap another, then get closer and take another. He didn't scurry back into the salvia until I'd finished with the photo shoot. Cheeky little bugger!
At least they can't get into the vegetable garden...
Looks like my house...I think they think it's a rabbit sanctuary...I love the bunnies and they keep my grass nicely trimmed...they've never seemed to eating else...
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of suburban wildlife too: rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, hawks. I planted broccoli a few years ago which came up beautifully until I went out one morning and discovered the rabbits had had a feast: the broccoli was shaved right down to about 1 inch from the ground. They are cute, but devious.
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable! So, what did he end up snacking on? Hopefully nothing important.
ReplyDeleteDebby- Ahhh, yours are better behaved than mine. Mine love little baby plants, and I have to make little cages for protection. They don't seem to bother mature plants.
ReplyDeleteBut rabbits have such soft eyes...
Deborah - We have all but the chipmunks, which I'd love to watch up close. Yes, cute, but devious bunnies. My kids loved the story of Bunnicula when they were small, and so they are all little Bunniculas to us.
flippytale- That is just what my husband asked, but this one must have been eating grass or returning from a snack elsewhere. :)
We are seeing snowshoe hare this spring, the feet are still white, but the rest is light brown. I can't figure out if I'm seen one bunny really often or if there are many of them.
ReplyDeletewow, i can never quite catch mine in a still moment. i think they are more nervous because of the cat nearby.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have rabbits here in the neighborhood. I have to into the fields to see them. I always enjoy the way they think they are invisible if they are motionless.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures! I love rabbits, even when they're destructive. (As you might have guessed, I'm not much of a gardener :) )
ReplyDeleteLoieJ - I'd love to see the snowshoe hares!
ReplyDeletejude - Mac, our little Boston Terrier, chases them when he sees them, but has never seemed to want to catch the squirrels or the rabbits...although he loves a good chase.
ACey - :) Stillness as camouflage! It works some of the time, but this one was right in the middle of the grass path.
Kay - The rabbits are fun to watch, and haven't breeched any of my defensive little cages this year.
What a cutie ! We have fox run through the yard at times - but bunnies only live on another end of the island I live on. Great photos !
ReplyDeleteHow sweet.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you were to fetch your camera card and still get the photo. I love the little cottontails that visit here, athough my first year they ate all my spinach and lettuce. Now I try to plant enough to share. I'm told they adore parsley.
ReplyDeleteI like your word "technodunce". I sure am one.
The quote about quilting is wonderful.
zquilts - I'd love to see the foxes!
ReplyDeleteRian - Appearances are deceiving :)
Fran - I know! Pure luck! The little dears do love greens, but my parsley is inside the fence.
awwww, the last picture is soo cute .. look how innocent his eyes look.
