Thanks for all of the good wishes I've received this week for my birthday, for feeling better, and for finding my book! Yesterday, on the way to take Laddie to his last appointment this week, it dawned on me. The scanner! I'd scanned the cover the day I wrote the post about Tender at the Bone. Yesterday, after searching every nook and cranny, the possibility of split personalities or aliens crossed my mind; however, my sanity was saved because the book was still in the scanner.
I never got around to sewing, working on projects yesterday, but today...surely!
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO !! what a ride!"
Hijacked from Hell's Geriatrics who have an entertaining Bill of Rights.
I love that quote. I've seen it before, & it always makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteI lose things all the time. Another favorite quote of mine is, "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most". I don't know who the originator of the quote was, but I agree!
In our household, we always check the scanner first when we lose an item. It all started when my husband sold his MGB and asked me where the title to the car was. Of course he didn't ask until the buyer was at the house. And said buyer drove all the way from Boulder, Colorado to Lincoln, Nebraska to pick up the car! I looked in the obvious place where I keep all these items and it wasn't there! I asked hubby if maybe he had it in his office in the basement (perhaps he needed it when he was placing the ad?). Nope. Searched the entire house. Never found it. The buyer was understanding and we took his money and he took the car (with a written note about the exchange) and a promise that we would go to the DMV the following day (yep, this took place on a weekend). So off I went to the DMV, paid for a new title, sent it off to the new owner of our car and forgot all about the incident until, oh, maybe 6 months later when I needed to scan a health insurance claim. Guess what was in the scanner? Guess whose husband put it there? ;)
ReplyDeleteDeb - I know, I feel the same way! When I found the quote again, I just needed the reassurance that priorities must be set. Both my mind and Laddie's mind are lost much of the time (and I miss them both). We spent almost as much time yesterday looking for his hearing aid as I spent looking for the book!
ReplyDeleteLes - That damn scanner! Eats important papers and lost books at will.
I enjoyed this entry and the comments enormously, having just spent a crazed bit of time looking for some articles of clothing that weren't where I put them so that they couldn't possibly get lost (or infested with cat hairs) in the time between my son's selection of them and my need to iron them for his pick-up time this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteMy husband evidentally tidied these articles of clothing away amongst his own things despite the fact that (a) they don't belong to him and (b) I told him (twice) who they belonged to and why they were in one closet rather than another. I think my running around trying not to panic qualifies as a cardio workout!
I've only "lost" one thing in the scanner so far but now I'll know to look their first rather than later ...
ACey - I hate it when my husband tidies up. No, no, make that I WOULD hate it IF my husband tidied up. I think. Household runs smoother when I can only blame myself! Scanners and refrigerators. Always worth checking. Unless it is your husband that put things away... then it's anyone's guess :)
ReplyDeleteOr you can come live at my house, where my husband's idea of tidying up involves stuffing "like" (you know, if it's made of fabric...clothing, dish rags, yardage...it's "like") things into black plastic garbage bags. Yes, I said black plastic GARBAGE BAGS. This includes clean clothing waiting to be folded, and whatever school stuff the kids have dribbled behind them throughout the house. Even throwing away 3 loads of clean clothes, including their entire school uniform wardrobe didn't break him of the habit, so now he doesn't get to clean up any more except in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteOh, Rhonda, I don't know whether to laugh or cry! I wouldn't let him help either!
ReplyDeleteI guess I missed your birthday...sorry! :-/ (been one of those weeks) Hope it was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBelated happy birthday! I love the quote, and all the comments about losing things, and husbands who do or do not clean up (mine does not--ever). "The book was in the scanner" sounds like the title of something, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI've been remiss (busy and gone) with my blog visiting, but happy belated birthday wishes to you and I hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteDebR - Thanks! I have had one of "those" weeks, too.
ReplyDeleteKay - Everyone I've talked to lately has had a lost item event...maybe their is some kind of planetary misalignment.
Rian - Looks like a wonderful trip, and I hope you enjoyed the wine, weather, and scenery!
