January Week Two, Done and Dusted

Recently, I've been reciting this mantra:  Time to adjust my crown and get to work.  (I don't remember where I saw the original version, but I've been using it several times a day.)

This morning while I was making an organizing effort, I spotted my real crown, which sits on the head of a papier mache cat, and decided to actually wear my crown for a bit.

Outgoing Mail

Week 2 Goals:  daily yoga (shortest practice 7 min.; longest 50 min.), walking (as long as I make two miles, I'm pleased), and out of the house (twice this week!)-- all accomplished.

25 Million Stitches:  Panel #2 mailed; panel #3 started.  This is the longer panel and a much more open weave.  I'm using pearl cottons and making bigger stitches.  Still a long, long way to go!

Books/Reading:

I loved Welcome to the Pine Away Motel and Cabins by Katarina Bivald.  Review scheduled for Jan. 16 on my book blog. Another win in reading was The Hollows by Jess Montgomery.   Just posted the review.

Interesting podcasts:
The Power of Words to Save Us
Tell Me a Story:  What Narratives Reveal About the Mind

I'm pretty new to the podcast thing.  Do any of you have favorite podcasts or sources?

  1. Can you listen to a podcast on a computer? That's how unsavy I am! Anyway-I LOVE those crowns! And good for you getting out twice! Me-not yet. But I did get a lot of gardening done since we don't have snow right now and it's in the 40's. Less work for when spring comes around for good. 20's for Friday, but we've had a spell of nice weather, so I guess we should expect it. Your stitching is lovely too. I wish I could do words in stitches so evenly. Mine is pretty sloppy!

    1. Try clicking on the links--I listen on the computer while stitching. The crowns were such fun to make! Mine looks a little sun-faded now because it is near the window, but I put it on anyway. :) We haven't really had winter yet, but we've had a lot of rain lately. When it isn't too wet, I'm still trying to finish some garden clean up, too.

  2. You've been doing well. The others will stop being too old for their crowns again in a few years!

    1. :) Funny how we remember those childhood things and view them differently after a few years. Just right, too old, then nostalgic. :)

  3. "Done and Dusted" for sure! Fifty minutes of Yoga!! Surely, it must have been the crown! Maybe, I need one!

    1. :) When something comes up that you've been putting off or don't find interesting, just repeat to yourself, "Let me adjust my crown and get 'er done" or any variation thereof. The imaginary crown works just as well!

  4. Glad to hear you are not too old to wear the crown! Good on you walking two miles—I do that every morning... I have yet to keep the yoga promise though.

    1. :) I adjust my imaginary crown several times a day, but wearing the real one occasionally is a good thing, too. Two miles isn't much, wonder how many miles you walk on the golf course! In September, I told my doctor I thought I had arthritis in my feet (I'd been walking every day for 5 or 6 miles or more). He said it sounded like bone spurs (!) and took xrays. All over the tops and bottoms of my feet were these little nodules. The walking stopped for a few months, and now I'm more cautious, but still trying. Two miles seems fine, and maybe I'll increase a little in time, but carefully! If I just get out the mat, I'm going to practice yoga. It is determining to get out the mat that seems to be the key. :)

  5. Well, darn, you never mentioned you made crowns. I could have used you last year, could have varied my look a little bit. I had to don my crown this week for a radio interview!? no less. I was going to support the Krewe Captain and she wanted us to look our parts. This year's queen had to work so I was filling in for her. Maybe my photo will be on the station's website because I never said one word on the air. :-))

    1. :) I'd actually forgotten about the crowns--even though it is in view on the paper mache cat every day. I "saw" it again while repeating my mantra about adjusting my crown and wore it for a while.

I'll have to look for your photo! Nothing like attending an interview in all your glory, whether the audience can see you or not. Attitude is everything!

  6. I love the crowns and good for you for wearing it! I don't have any podcasts to recommend although I've heard great things about Lore for all things spooky. Maybe I'll try that around the fall :)

    1. The crowns were fun to make, and I'm glad I still had pic of the ones I made for the grands. There are podcasts on almost any subject from science to crafting. Some have been informative, some inspiring. :)

  7. Jen just curious, I'm an avid reader as you are and I get all my books from garage and estate sales and thrift stores. Always on the lookout for books by Kristen Hannah, one of my favorites. Do you buy your books new or used? Also thank you for the link to Stef's dyed threads. Gorgeous colorways.
