Day Trip and Mail Art

We took a day trip to Blue Moon Gardens and Edom, TX.
Located fifteen miles west of Tyler, Edom is a tiny, tiny town,
but full of exuberance and art!

How tiny is Edom, TX?

The small pics are the one I took,
but I cadged two pics from Arbor Castle

About 6 miles out of Edom,
you can find Blue Moon Gardens,
a delightful nursery that has plants
I can't always find locally.

Here is what I went for--
a pygmy Japanese maple.

Sometimes the back of an envelope
is just as interesting as the front!

Another cool back!

  1. I love those tiny towns! I'm going to spend a quick weekend in one in a couple of weeks. That is a gorgeous nursery! Enjoy your new pigmy maple. I always love seeing your mail. Both incoming and outgoing. Very inspirational.

    1. It was a surprise--we were going to Blue Moon Gardens and found Edom! Last time I visited the nursery, I came from the other direction and had no idea that Edom was a few miles down the road and full of interesting shops. The little maple is a slow grower and only gets about 4 feet tall. Ours is only about 2 feet right now, and I love the shape. :)

    1. The birdhouses are made from cedar and have the most wonderful, imaginative details! It was liking visiting a little elfin village. :)

  3. Wish we'd known about Edom when we went to Tyler a few years ago. The nursery looks especially interesting. I'd love to see some of their more unusual plants.
The dog on the envelope looks familiar. Is he one from a children's book? Either way, he is funny.

    1. Blue Moon Gardens also has craft sessions for felting, rug hooking, embroidery, weaving, and more. I get their newsletter in the mail, and I'm always jealous of the events and demonstrations they offer that I can't attend! :)

Yep, the envelope is made from a page of a children's book!

  4. We used to get out and explore those little towns when Terry was more mobile. They always have the most amazing art. Our nurseries are just starting to get their stock in. We have a dwarf Japanese Maple and a standard size one and we love them. This year I am going to put in Lemon Grass in hopes of deterring mosquitoes. If only I could figure out how to keep the mud wasp at bay.

Thank you for the mail art I received yesterday.
    xx, Carol

    1. :) I love lemon grass, but didn't know it would deter mosquitoes! I also love citronella, and it smells so good, I don't care that I haven't noticed it deterring the blood-suckers. Mud wasps--we call them dirt daubers! :)

  5. I could live there with no sweat. Those paint brushes are the sealing wax on the deal. :) What a lovely town.

I keep scrolling up and down. So much fun, laughable, beautiful mail. What a lovely post. I want American Beauty Berries but cannot seem to find them locally. That's a lovely tree.

    1. The paintbrushes surrounding the door are delightful! There isn't much to Edom other than the shops, but it is only 15 miles to Tyler, so libraries and grocery stores are not too far away.
Good luck with finding your American Beauty Berry--I found 8 vendors on Dave's Garden, but none in LA or TX. But--there were there are several private growers in TX who had plants or cuttings for sale or trade. http://davesgarden.com/community/trading/search.php?search_text=PFPID:2657

  7. Well, I have to comment about the dog! It made me smile, and I remember our dog Biko (in heaven now)when he ahem-passed gas- it scared him! He'd always jump straight up in the air-so we knew (in more than one way) what he had done!!!
    Lovely art, by the way...

    1. I know! We had a Boston Terrier that jumped, looked around as if frightened or confused, then vacated the spot! It was too funny...and maybe too frequent. :)

  8. I want to go to Blue Moon Gardens. I've heard of it and bought some of their plants somewhere else, but must take the day trip you all took. Edom is so picturesque and the Blue Moon Gardens are beautiful. And Ricky is now game for almost anything. I almost had him talked into driving to Red Rocks just so I could hear Chris Stapleton sing "Tennessee Whiskey." You can take the girl out of Appalachia but .... We aren't going. Having company instead, but he was willing.
