Knit One Quilt Too posted pictures of some of her families quilts at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and mentioned that her sister's Alphabet quilt was made with the Promise Stitch method (She notes that "It's also sometimes called a double stitch method and is always done by hand") . They were so busy at the quilt show, she didn't get a chance to find out more about the technique and an online search provided her with little information. This made me curious, so I googled "promise stitch" and "double stitch" with much the same results-- found nothing but kits that teach the method. Not even a picture that showed what was involved.
Do any of you know more about this technique? I'd like to see a close up of an example, to know more about what the technique entails...
So now I'm intrigued too. I think I'll get a kit and learn it- then I'll tell you all about it! :)
ReplyDeleteKate - It almost seems as if it is a conspiracy! Promise you'll tell if you get a kit!
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, I heard I description of this stitch and it LOOKS like machine stitching only its done by hand...come up from the bottom, stitch backwards thru top and batting only, exit at bottom thru same hole as you came up..
ReplyDeleteYMMV...I haven't actually TRIED doing quilting like this, so I cannot speak from experience..just what was described to me..
Suze - Oh, that sounds...strange. I really do want to see an example.
ReplyDeleteI just bought the pattern and haven't started working on it, but I found a close up picture here: http://www.mountainpatchwork.com/AboutUs.htm

ReplyDeletego to this link...it shows what the double stitch is.
Alma Rose - Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteanonymous - Is the promise stitch just a version of the Holbein stitch?
