OMG - First post in 2016!

I've taken an unintentional blog break.  Sometimes I just fail to post one week and then the next--with no conscious plan of abandoning the blog.  Part of the reason for lack of posts is that I have not been working on dolls and only occasionally on embroidery.  When I have no ideas or too many ideas, avoidance takes over.

What I have been doing is writing more letters--trying to write weekly to the three grands and their mothers, and to write occasionally to friends.  I haven't always remembered to take pics, but here are some outgoing pieces of mail.

This past week when writing to Erin thanking her for our enjoyable visit to Baton Rouge to see her new house, I wanted to include a picture from her childhood.  Searching boxes in the garage that have been unopened since we moved into this house, I found not only some great pictures, but some cool stuff from when I was doing mail art years ago!  I will be putting them to work soon.

I need to be more careful with photographing outgoing mail!  Incoming, which is rarer, I can always grab and take a pic, but once something is in the mailbox, it's gone.

  1. You've been doing plenty, even if it hasn't involved a needle and thread!

    1. Another reason to create chaos in the studio! I love making and decorating the envelopes, and it exercises my brain to find something to write about. :) I

  2. Lots of fun mail art! Mail art is a big love of mine. It was back in the day, but it's even more fun now when so much is so much more acceptable. I've been strolling through your blog and clicked on a few links. Quite an enjoyable time!

  3. I agree with Rachel...you've been very busy creatively! My mother would have loved you. She wrote letters very often before the Alzheimers became too much. Five of my sisters were in the military, so she lived for the mail--outgoing and incoming. She saved many of "the girls'" letters, cards, pictures, stamps, envelopes, newspaper clippings, etc. (Seriously tons.) The girls would throw anything into an envelope in their desperation to send something. Of course, there were the mandated "Sunday calls" so an empty mailbox meant they had to answer daddy's interrogation as to why there wasn't a note for mom. Ack! I live only 20 minutes away (and visited at least 2-3 times weekly) but occasionally dropped a card in the mail. In other words, we spoiled momma with mail. Thanks for starting off 2016 with a beautiful post that now has me in tears. [Said with love, I just miss them both terribly. Wonderful memories will do that.] I have no doubt she would be on your mail list!

    1. Your mother certainly believed in keeping in touch and with five girls in the military--even more important! What treasures letters can be--at the time they are received and whenever they are reread. Good on you for spoiling your mother with letters!

  4. Ah, Mail....real mail...add art and you have something really special. I have been thinking about mail art. Postal mail and hand written letters are becoming a lost "art" for most who find it easier to text and email. An idea is perking.

    1. Carol, keep that idea perking,I'm eager to hear about it. And send me your address, and I will snail mail something to you!

  5. Oh how wonderful!!! 'Snail' mail has become almost obsolete. Your letters and envelopes will be saved and treasured for a lifetime. What's more, you're having fun doing it -- always a priority! *smile*

    1. I agree that fun is always a priority! It is a shame that letter writing has become less common because of all the technology that keeps us in touch with more immediacy. But emails and texts are necessarily short and then often forgotten, lost in the ether.

  6. Seems most people have morphed from blogging to Facebook for sharing the blurbs of their lives. As one friend put it, with blogging you have to make whole paragraphs that have to flow from one to the next, but with Facebook you only need to say a few words. Idaknow, I like blogging better, it's like letter-writin. Facebook is very...fast.

    1. I agree, Rian. I enjoy checking Facebook, but skim through it rapidly. Truth is paragraphs are much more fun to read!

  7. Great mail!! Sorry about the postage due on one of mine. I swear the P.O. has raised prices without letting anyone know! I weigh everything to make sure there's enough postage...I think they look for stuff to get more postage on regardless. Glad you're back at it again. Hugs.

    1. :) I think they didn't take in account an older stamp, but they didn't ask me for additional postage at any rate! I need to get a scale; I've looked at them on Amazon, but haven't purchased one yet.
