Friday Musings

We had some rain last night, and it is much cooler this morning.  I'm grateful for the rain and eager for the prospect of cooler weather.

I'm still working on a couple of Eccentrics for Halloween.  I have finished this scholarly little pumpkin head.  Magnus is only about 6" tall, but full of enthusiasm.  His school uniform includes shorts and suspenders, although the suspenders have fallen to the side.
He has a little plastic ring sewn on his back
so that I can hang him downstairs
when October arrives.

I purchased the tiny book last year,
but it was too small for the Eccentric witch I had in mind.
She preferred her little dog, anyway.
Which was fine with Magnus,
who loves a little bedtime reading.

My Reading:  Still trying to catch up on reviews over at A Garden Carried in the Pocket.  One fun book lately was The Spiritglass Charade by Colleen Gleason.  Perfect for the approach to Halloween as it has spiritualism and vampires and Bram Stoker's sister and Sherlock Holmes' niece investigating dastardly crimes.  Light, fun, YA novel--I enjoyed it.  Review is in progress.

I finished and reviewed Failing Our Brightest Kids; it was certainly an eye-opener and gave me a lot to think about.

Found this on Facebook:

Have a great weekend, y'all.

  1. He is a scholarly little fellow. I wonder whether he will write one himself one of these days...?

    1. He does have quite a head on his shoulders. :) I'm sure he would have plenty of stories to tell.

  2. I don't know why I don't think about sewing a ring to the back of a doll to hang it on the wall. (HItting my head saying why didn't I think of that!!) I can't soft sculpture items on the end tables or couch because the dogs think they were made for THEM, lol. I especially like Pumpkin Head. Perhaps he has stolen the Witch's Spell book?

    1. Our cats are the problem around here! I have some injured characters in need of repair from incidents involving The Triad of Doom. A little plastic ring makes a great hanger!

  3. I picked up some little plastic rings in the paint department. They are there to hold the paint chip papers, so they open but also snap closed. You check into those freebies.
Magnus is cut in a creepy sort of way, so he should be perfect for Halloween. Maybe you should consider putting up a tree before Halloween...hang your eccentrics on it for October, then have half the work done before putting up the Christmas ornaments. Of course there's putting away the eccentrics, but you have to do that anyway. Now I'm curious, have you made any Christmas eccentrics?

    1. I do love freebies--I'll check the rings out! If my house was larger I definitely set up the tree for some of my little Halloween critters. My Christmas creatures are not as eccentric--snowmen and Santas and mice, etc.--pretty standard. :)
