New Orleans

We could not have asked for better weather in New Orleans!  Everyone was talking about it because it was so unusual, but the high was 89 with reasonable humidity--wonderful!  Although I walked around while Amelia was in her conference sessions, I didn't buy anything in the Quarter, and when I got tired, went back to the hotel and my Kindle.

Suzie and Bobby took us to Boucherie on Tuesday night--and if you ever have a chance when you are in N.O., you really should experience it. Bobby ordered such an assortment dishes that we all shared.   It was all such a delight for the eye, but then the tasting sensation...!  I didn't even have enough sense to take a picture of all of it on display. Check out the menu and drool.  :)

Every place we ate had wonderful food presented so artistically, but Boucherie was in a class by itself.

Wednesday afternoon, Suzie picked us up after school and took us to Magazine St. where the shops cater to a New Orleans crowd mostly, I think.  What fun!  It was so late we only had time for two shops:  Uptown Needle & CraftWorks (and their Facebook page) and The Bead Shop, which was right next door.  Two little shotgun houses side by side.

The pics come from their Facebook pages.
Couldn't resist a few fat quarters
from Uptown Needle and CraftWorks.
Emma and her daughter own the shop
and offer all kinds of classes and lessons.
Oh, to live in N.O. and be able to take
a few classes!
Or beads from
the Bead Shop

I'm eager to make some Halloween Eccentrics now!  Just look at those skull beads--perfect!  I was so glad Amelia was able to go with us, but we had to hurry because the shops closed at 6:00.  Rush, rush!

Up early Friday morning for the long drive home, but what a wonderful quick trip!

  1. That's it, I've got to have some of that luscious fabric from Uptown Needle! I'll let you have the skull beads, though...skulls sort of scare me. lol Yes, really! I am happy you had such a fun time in NOLA. It's one of my favorite cities. Of course, I don't have quite as many traveling hours as you do. I've not been to even one place you've mentioned, so I guess that's call for another trip! For now I'm going there via the internet, straight to Uptown Needle. Thanks for the tip!

    1. Uptown Needle is a tiny shop that kind of overflows with personality! You will enjoy it, Mary. Oh, the skull beads are really pretty cheerful and will work well with any Halloween characters I manage to create.

We were so lucky to be in N.O. when the temps and humidity were both so low. Last time we visited in the summer, it was like a sauna. :)

    1. New Orleans is a wonderful city in so many ways. The food and culture and art and music! And they have made a pretty impressive come-back from Katrina.

    1. We had a great time--always so good to visit with friends, especially those who know the best craft shops! I have already begun several small creatures for Halloween, and each will get a little skull bead. :)

    1. They are lovely little shops, and everyone was so helpful. In the bead shop, they helped Amelia choose charms for a N.O. bracelet for B.E. :)

  5. Your trip sounds so exotic to me-I'm just a country hick who has not traveled at all....I'm going to check out the links you gave, and the menu! I LOVE those fat quarters you bought-I would have bought the same ones!

    1. :) The best parts were that Suzie and Bobby were so generous with their time! Suzie and I have been friends for more than half our lives, and I always have such a good time with her, but it is usually when she comes back to visit her mother and sister. I couldn't resist those fat quarters, even if I don't know what I'll do with them yet.
