Finished at Last

I think she is done.  Sigh of relief over this one.  After abandoning (and disliking her) time after time, I'm fine with her now.  Yesterday, I made a black cat out of a scrap of felted wool to accompany her, but realized quickly that a black cat was too Halloweenish for her summery dress.  While still not completely satisfied with the apron, I was too impatient to give it a third go.  Knowing what I'd do different next time is enough for now.

So many "what I'd do next time" thoughts about both doll and clothing. One big one-- don't take a heat gun to dry a re-painted face--it will melt the fur used for hair.

When the cat idea didn't work, I made her a little book for her pocket.  Maybe I will eventually make her a cat, but a marmalade tabby would suit her better, if I ever get around to it.

Since my original concept changed so many times, and she changed from a kind of winter/snow queen to more of a homebody, she has no name, but she loves poetry and herb gardens and butterflies.

I'm loving Ian Fleming's letters!  For someone who had little interest in James Bond, I'm finding myself captivated by the author.  I may have to read one of the Bond novels. :)

  2. She may look like you, but that's definitely my hair! And it doesn't take a heat gun to turn mine into a flyaway mess. Could she be reading "Sarah, Plain and Tall" or is that who she's named after? No matter what you name her, she's one of my favorites.

    1. I do need to put a title on the book! I do kind of like the name Sarah, and she suits the description plain and tall. I think I will call her Sarah. :)

    1. Thanks, Penny! Oh, that fly away hair is so much better than the portion that melted and had to have a little therapy!

  6. I think she's lovely! I scrolled down a bit in the blog and saw the picture of the different heads...did you mold them all yourself??

    1. Thanks, Trish! Usually, I just play with the clay and see what comes out, but this head is based on an online class I took with Marlaine Verhelst in December of last year on facial expressions. I tried using some of her different expressions, then abandoned them. Now, I need to go back and try to use what I learned on other dolls. :)

  7. I agree she is lovely. But she looks like a woman who would have a cat or three (sound like anybody you know?) so maybe you could give her a calico cat.

    1. Humph! Our evil Triad of Cats belongs to my husband. I just feed and care for them. :) She may end up with a cat, though, just to keep up appearances.
