Workshop Love #3

Julie Arkell at Hope & Elvis

Julie Arkell gives a lot of workshops and must be an inspiring teacher because I've noticed that participants often attend more than one of her offerings.

Her whimsical papier mache  creatures are so lovable.

More casually established groups offer something similar to a book club,  strictly local   monthly gatherings where crafters and creative people meet and share.   Monthly Challenge groups and art parties also sound like fun.

Do you participate in workshops or local groups that offer creative outlets?

  1. I'm in a local quilt guild which meets at least once a month for an official meeting and often again to create. I've taught a couple of workshops for the guild and really enjoy doing that. I hope to join a few not-so-local guilds after retirement.

    1. Love that your guild meets to create, not just show and tell. I bet your workshops are fun, Mary!

  2. I belong to a group of crafters/artitsts. Most of them are fiber artists of one type or another. Its small and intimate and so much fun to see each other once a month. We have show and tell (which means you sort of have to work on 'something' during the month) and a different 'creative exercise' each month which is not a hands on craft project but an exercise to help with our creativity in general. Its great fun!!

    1. Having a show and tell keeps you on your toes and encourages you to work on the projects in progress or the ideas you have in your head. I love the idea of a creative exercise! Could you give some examples, Penny? I love the idea of having a creative circle that encourages and inspires!

  3. Not since I went to the local Embroiderer's Guild and was greeted by my old Headmistress, deputy headmistress, Maths teacher, French teacher and form mistress! Totally traumatising...!
