What's Up

I am still not in the creative mood, only going up to the studio to watch Netflix or DramaFever and embroider--because my hands have to busy while I watch.

The above was supposed to be a headpiece for one of my Eccentric figures, but didn't work out so well for that purpose.  I'm sure it will be useful somewhere, sometime, and it served its purpose of "something to do with my hands" while I watched episodes of Grimm and Healer (a Korean Drama).

Of course, I've been reading and reviewing books over at A Garden Carried in the Pocket.  I loved two more of Jane Casey's police procedurals,  Lamentation by C.J. Sansom, and a biography of Alan Turing.  I put aside a biography of Lewis Carroll that I started in December and then kind of forgot about.  It was interesting, and I need to get back to it, but right now I have a que of books that I'm eager to read.

Today is a grey day, overcast and wintery-looking, even if it isn't that cold, the high humidity makes me colder than a clear, dry day with lower temperatures.  It suits my mood this morning, as I just started a book titled Asylum, set in Montreal.

The Triad are doing well, fat and lazy most of the time, but occasionally setting on each other for entertainment.  It's funny to watch them all curled up together, sleeping peacefully, then later, to hear a screeching meow as Edgar chases one of the girls around the room.  Cats!  Fee got me a Roomba for Christmas, and I love the way it blindly moves about, bumping into a wall or chair, redirecting, and setting off again--keeping the floors and rugs clean of furry stuff.  If the Triad would stay off the furniture, I wouldn't be troubled at all by their shedding.  No technology for that yet, but I live in hope.

I was doing a great job of keeping up with an hour or more of a yoga each day for the last couple of weeks, but skipped yesterday, and have not gotten around to it yet today.  Guess I should get busy, if I want to keep the routine.

Namaste.

  1. I hate the creative blahs. When they hit, I take the opportunity to rest, relax and do things I might not otherwise do like rummage through the thrift store or go to a movie. Every once in a while, I stumble across something that sparks an inspiration, and I'm off and running again!

    1. :) Sometimes thrift stores are the best inspiration!

  2. I go shopping -- window shopping that is. I'm off to see galleries or gift shops, places where I can see the quirky and the beautiful. Another thing I do is walk -- taking a long walk away from 'everything' frees my brain and imagination. Meanwhile it sounds like you are having a lovely winter - waiting for inspiration to strike - and it will!

    1. We all have those fallow cycles, and I love reading about the ways different people deal with them. I think walking is so good for building enthusiasm and energy, whether for the creative or those mundane chores that need doing. Right now, I could use some enthusiasm for just straightening up the studio; that often results in the creative mood. :)

  3. I'm sure the creativity will come back, although I know it sometimes takes a while.

    1. I'm accustomed to these periods of inaction. I do enjoy browsing blogs and seeing what goes on in the creative worlds of others. Sometimes these periods are because I'm stumped about a project I'm working on. Either I will see a solution or give up and move on to something else. :O

  4. Nice to hear from you, Jenclair! Enjoy reading while your creative powers are hibernating. That's what I did for several months and my recent return to art play. So, my burning question about the Roomba is: what about corners, where most dust seems to accumulate? Love your embroidered piece. Have a great weekend. xo

    1. :) We all go through those alternating cycles. Yes, the Roomba does a good job with corners because it works differently from a regular vacuum. Since I run it every day, if it happens to miss a corner one day, it usually get it the next day. And the way it goes between chairs at the dining table looks like a contest of wills!

Thanks for the nice comment on the embroidered piece!

  5. Creative blahs here, too. I was going strong and then...poof! Must be a winter thing.

    1. Well, you do have an excuse with the new house, travel, and the golf!

  6. I love the embroidery piece - charming. The creative roller coaster is so hard to master, yet it is part of the process. The harder I try to fight it, the more discontent I become. I smile at the idea of having a Roomba, I'm sure my cats would scatter to all corners convinced it was out to get them. Thank you for stopping by my blog last week, Life at Coral Cottage, and leaving a comment. Best, Kim

    1. Thanks, embroidery has a meditative effect and keeps my hands occupied!

The cats are leery of the Roomba, but they aren't as terrified of it as they are of the vacuum, but they don't ride on it, like that cat on Youtube. :)

  7. It's wonderful to visit again! I love the little embroidery piece and think it would make a great brim for a hat.

As for the Roomba, I love mine. It sat parked in the box for two years because I refused to use it on the old floors. Now that we've finally put in beautiful ceramic floors, I've set the Roomba free to do her thing. She is great at everything she can get to...including little slips of tissue that the puppies shredded into confetti. Of course she needed a little TLC after that.

I hope to get to a couple of good books later in the spring. Anne Tyler has a new one out titled A Spool of Blue Thread that I'm dying to get my hands on. Let me know if you get to it before I do.

    1. Oh, yes, that Roomba is wonderful! I don't know how I could have gone so long without even one.

Have you seen the trailer for A Spool of Blue Thread? Quite a few people will be in line for a new Anne Tyler!
