I Love Lists and Tips

check it out on Amazon
I was thinking this morning about lists
and remembered
writing a post on my book blog about lists
a while back, so I've copied and pasted
a section of that post:
Are you one of those individuals who loves lists?  I am.  I make them, lose them, find them, usually too late to make use of them. And I enjoy reading lists that other people make.
Dickens now qualifies as my favorite list maker of all time.  He created this list of fake books for his library at Tavistock.  And then, AND THEN...he had a bookbinder create the fake book backs and added them to his bookshelves.   (found via Mary's Library--thanks, Mary!)
The first few titles from Dickens' fake books:
Five Minutes in China. 3 vols.
Forty Winks at the Pyramids. 2 vols.
Catalogue of Statues of the Duke of Wellington
(from Lists of Note -- fascinating reading from the lists of Julia Child, Dickens, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and others.)

This article from BBC News:
 The Art of List-Making
is interesting reading and discusses what
lists can reveal about the personality
of the list-maker.
                                                 ---------
So, anyway, I love lists.

Oh, and I just found
Mary's (of Fleur de Lis Quilts)
new tutorial of how to do
 a machine stitched binding!
Lots of pictures are so helpful.

Do you have favorite lists?
How about favorite tips?

  1. I am good at making lists. Not always good at getting things marked off! LOL. I like the idea of lists a lot. There are so many good ones....good books to read, quotes I pick up from books, stuff to try making, etc. I am not always the greatest at keeping up with them all.

  2. I come from a family of listers! My mom the biggest of all. I once gave her this book, hoping to capture some of her stories (which she refused to write)! I have it back now, still empty. Maybe I shall fill it for my kids :)

I also gave her Milk, Eggs, Voldka, which she loved. I had her write me a typical grocery list (without knowing why) - which I laminated, added some yarn and included as a bookmark. I have those now too :)
I tend to put more on a list than one person could ever do!!

  3. Stephie - I'm good at making lists, too, but like you, not always good at getting things done. I have lists of books that I forget to take to the library, grocery lists that end up filling my purse, and dozens of lists of things to try making!

Nancy - I checked out the book lists on Amazon, and now I have another list of lists to make! Instead of buying the book, I'm going to just use the Contents Chapters to make more lists.
I am going to order Milk, Eggs, Vodka, though.

What a great idea to use your mother's lists to laminate and make into bookmarks! Your mother must have been a delight to deserve a cow and having her lists memorialized.

My latest "To Do" list (I make a daily one) has this qualification to the side: To Do This Week, with the addendum-- (or whenever).
