Tuesday Thoughts

I am completely addicted to Korean Drama, but having to wait for new episodes of Arang and the Magistrate is difficult.

Arang is so spunky and funny: defying the Death Angels who want to carry her off to whatever fate awaits her in the next world, fighting with other ghosts,  trying to regain her memory and discover who she was in real life, and recklessly challenging the Jade Emperor who, according to folklore, is the ruler of Heaven, Earth, and Hell.  When Arang discovers that she was murdered, she fearlessly crosses the Styx and confronts the Jade Emperor in person, berating and scolding him.  She's a cheeky, impertinent little thing.

Arang  discombobulates personages in Heaven and Earth, and Lee Jun Ki as the magistrate, finds himself drawn to the plucky ghost in spite of himself.  He initially agrees to help her regain her memory as part of his own agenda, but the more he works with Arang, the more attached he becomes.
Iljimae -- Lee Jun Ki

I really liked Lee Jun Ki in Iljimae (historical drama) and Shin Min Ah in My Girlfriend Is a Nine-Tailed Fox (romantic comedy) so having both of them star in Arang is really fun.  Both stars have the ability to make you care about their characters.

Newly discovered:  Totally Tutorial -- almost anything you might want to make will have a tutorial on this site!

And thanks to Sophie, I've been enjoying the work of Anne-Valerie Dupond!

I've been working on two new mixed-media Eccentrics for the last few days.  One uses a wire "toaster" used to toast bread over an open fire--at least, I think that is what it is.  I have another one, but is a completely different type, so I'm not absolutely certain about the purpose of this rusted wire piece.

VINTAGE ANTIQUE TEXTILE WOODEN SPOOLS (3)The other figure uses an old manufacturing thread bobbin.  I have several in blue and in natural colors.

As I keep looking through my vintage and found objects, I'm getting more ideas.  It has been months since I've wanted work on dolls, and now, Eccentric figures and mixed media creations are the only thing on my mind.  :)  And I'm having fun with them!

  1. Can't wait to see what you do with these found objects. I'm rooting for a small girl with an impish look....don't know why, but it's my take on the objects in your photo. (They look like golf tees.)

Honestly, is there anything cultural that you don't like? Korean Drama? Where do you find that? I have to assume that it's in English, otherwise how do you follow the story so well. I am just continually amazed and inspired.

  2. Mary - They are much larger than golf tees! About 12 inches long for big industrial machines.

Korean dramas have subtitles, and it is strange how quickly you forget that you can't actually understand the words they speak. These dramas are so beautifully done that it is easy to get caught up in them.

My friend Thomas got me started on Kdramas, and now I don't know whether to bless him or curse him for my addiction-- but I'm not even considering withdrawal!

  3. I have never watched Korean drama. Interesting....

I have some of those antique spindles. Can't wait to see what you do!

  4. Stephie - Korean drama is pretty remarkable. I especially love some of the comedies!

I'm only using one spindle for the doll I'm working on, but I'm thinking about a larger one using the spindles as legs. :) May take a while to figure out what to do with all of them!

Good to hear from you!
