Pat-a-cake...Baker's Man

Whoa...armless is definitely worse than she was.  I should have left her alone. She is now exiled to a lonely existence with other characters who will probably never be completed.

The Baker, however, is finished and has some Halloween touches that can be easily changed later.  A new scarf, a new hat band,  a new dessert--and the Baker can change seasons quickly and effortlessly.

What next?  I have some doll ideas I want to try, but right now, nothing is moving me to work on them.  Should check my supply of rusted, odd, and unusual items and/or make some new cloth bodies.  Gee...which one takes more time?

What needs to be worked on is the white on white.  All the blocks are done, but they need to be pieced together.  This will be a bit of a chore as there are so many layers of fabric, and that may be why I keep putting it off.

I've discovered a good way to use my encrusted pieces, too--something useful, for a change.  Will take some pics and show you soon.

  2. Thanks, Nancy! I need to sit down and think about that white on white. And maybe revisit Karen Ruane's class notes. Just have to get in the right mood. ;]

  4. Thanks, Stephie! I really like the baker, too. I've had that old hand mixer for so long and finally had the opportunity to use it.

  5. The Baker is ready for scary days! I love his tiny hat band.

The white on white piece is lovely and reminds me of beautiful Victorian crazy quilts. Have you considered treating it like a quilt as you go? You'd connect the pieces with sashing instead of each other.

  6. Mary - I keep a box of Halloween fabrics, embellishments, ribbons, etc. and came across the little stick on stars for his hat band at just the right moment. :)

I'm not sure what I'll do with the white on white (or that I'll ever finish it). I enjoyed doing all of the embroidery, but have lost interest. Hate to let all of the time that went into it go to waste, though. May try the sashing...eventually. Thanks for the suggestion!
