Papier Mache' Again

I needed a top piece in order to make a cage skirt for the fancy lady as I didn't have a wooden round the right size.  Cut two circles out of thick cardboard and papier mache'd them together.  Later, when the papier mache' was dry, the piece received a coat of paper clay, and after sanding and painting, will serve as the top of the cage.
Since all the papier mache' stuff was out (a bag of newspapers strips I keep at the ready and the flour paste), it seemed a good idea to make something else using the rest of the flour paste.

And so it goes,... Extra flour paste?  Make something else.  Not enough flour paste to finish?  Make some more.  Extra flour paste?

Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but truly, I can end up spending days, off and on, working with papier mache'.  With the oven on low, I can dry pieces in between coats.  Which also means I need to have something else to work on while those pieces are drying.  I end up switching the pieces in and out of the oven every five minutes or so.

It is messy work.  If my noses itches, I can't scratch it because my hands are covered with flour paste and stray bits of paper that I'm trying to shake off.

But--I'm not going to do that this time!  I've already spent enough time with sticky hands and paper strips.  Time to move on.

Fee is Natchez connecting with old high school buddies.  He's having a great time reminiscing and I'm having a great time making a huge mess.  Yes, I'm always making a huge mess, but usually I keep it in the studio...this one has spilled downstairs.

  4. What a fun mess to have, right? Sounds like you're on a merry go round and can't get off. May I recommend measuring? Maybe not as much fun but surely less dizzying!

  5. Teresa - :) I'm having fun working on all these little people!

Stephie - If I would quit switching from project to project, I might get one finished!

Nancy - Oh, no! Not B.E.--I'm not ready for that yet! I did do some papier mache' with Mila, though, last year. She got frustrated with the paper sticking to her hands ;p
It was kind of like watching a cat with a bell on its tail.

Mary - It is a fun mess. Ha, ha! Measure? Have you ever wondered why everything I do is off center? Too short, too tall, uneven?

Good to hear from you!
