February Auction (with addendum)

Debra has two lovely art quilts in the AAQI February Auction.

Michele also has one in the February Auction.

The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative™ (www.AlzQuilts.org) is a national, grassroots charity whose mission is to raise awareness and fund research. The AAQI auctions and sells donated quilts, and sponsors a nationally touring exhibit of quilts about Alzheimer's. The AAQI has raised more than $690,000 since January 2006.

And I forgot to mention my latest purchase, which was not an auction quilt, but one of the quilts for sale on the site.  How could I have forgotten to add the maker:
  Artist:  Nancy Sexton, Rye, CO
Artist Statement: This is Dedicated to Ms. Irene DeDe a " Scrappy Ladies Quilt Guild " member, who passed away ,The Alzheimer’s Quilt project was her pet project, she introduced it to us, so we do this to honor her.

The February auction begins Wednesday, February 1.  The previews are up.  Check it out and see if you can't find a great gift for Valentine's Day that will honor those who have suffered from the disease and help provide research money for a cure.

Have you had a family member or friend who has had Alzheimer's?

  1. Neat! One of my friends has a quilt she just put in their auction and I want to get it. I have never bid on one of these before. I don't see a price on it yet, so I'm assuming they aren't ready to sell it yet. I have to figure out how the whole thing works. :-)

  3. Bless your heart for spreading the word. And when I saw that cat quilt ...I thought it was adorable. How lovely that she found a home with you! Such a dear story, too.

  4. Michele - Isn't that a cute and cheerful-looking cat? I'll be holding him up as an example for the bad cats in my house.

Yes, I like knowing the connections, the stories behind the quilts. This one touched me.

  5. Thank you so much for sharing information about the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative! I lost my Dad to Alzheimer’s in December of 2010 and have been committed to raising money for research through AAQI since he was diagnosed in 2006. I am a quilter and I love that the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative is a grass roots organization that is totally staffed by volunteers so that every available dollar can be used to fund research. I love your little quilts and am thrilled that you have taken up our cause!

  6. Beth - I,too, lost my father to this terrible disease. Seeing the devastation of a personality is a dreadful thing, and we are all hoping for a cure. Thanks to Ami, we have a way to contribute!

  8. Yvette - AAQI is a great way to raise money for Alzheimer's Research. Donating or buying quilts is a creative way to contribute to the cause.

The March Auction is going on now.
