Sparkle and Solstice

We all need a little sparkle, don't we?

Bryce Eleanor brings a little sparkle with each visit.  Yesterday, another tent.

She dressed herself, but I didn't get a picture of her in all of her glory, just snippets.

She's no angel...
But she's a lot of fun!

Tomorrow is Fee's birthday, and Erin, Mila, and Max will here!

The winter solstice this year is again on Fee's birthday, Dec. 22.

"In 2011, all time zones to the east of the Central Standard Time meridian (90 degrees west longitude), the December solstice falls on Thursday, December 22."

"As seen from the northern hemisphere, the winter solstice – typically around December 21 to 23 – is the day on which the sun’s path stops moving southward in the sky. The winter solstice marks the longest night and shortest day of the year. For us in the northern hemisphere, it’s the day on which the days stop growing shorter and will soon begin to lengthen again. For this reason, in festivals and celebrations across this hemisphere of Earth, the winter solstice is linked to the idea of rebirth."

"In the case of Stonehenge, this great Trilithon faces outwards from the center of the monument, with its smooth flat face turned toward the midwinter sun. In fact, the primary axes of Stonehenge seems to have been carefully aligned on a sight-line pointing to the winter solstice sunset."

  2. I love the photo of the ornaments in the bowl. And, though your little tent builder may be no angel, she sure is a cutie-pie ;-)
How I long for someone to build tents with!

  3. A quilt makes a great tent! Wouldn't you love to be at Stonehedge for a solstice? I would.

  5. Gerrie - She is fun--entertaining and exhausting! Happy Holidays to you, too, Gerrie!

Valerie -- :) Since I had to be in there with her part of the time, the next one will be under the tall table. Oh, yes, you difinitely need a tent-building partner. No fun alone!

Rian - Yes, I'd love to be at Stonehenge for a solstice! A friend and I just missed being there for a summer solstice about ten years ago. A strange and entertaining mix of people congregate in the area for a solstice. :)

Mary - Oh, I remember quilt tents from my childhood, Erin & Amelia's childhood, and now another generation! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
