Monday Musings

I have black bean soup simmering.  I'll probably freeze a good bit of it, but it will make great lunches for a while, too.

In between checking on the soup and a few other chores, I nibble on the Peanut M&Ms.  I should be paying more attention to my diet and leaving off these addictive little bits of deliciousness, but they are so hard to resist.  The Rasberry Kisses are also very good, but are also to resisted.

I used the new dish towel in that luscious pink to add a Valentine flavor to the rosemary.  Changing the bow on the old books is an easy way to transition from season to season.  The blocks are from Target--$2.50, I think; they were in the bargain section.

I haven't figured out what to do with my red and pink hearts, but the silver and red ones are now "specimen art."

See the cute little girl figure?  One of my favorite Christmas gifts ever!  Erin, Mila, and Max gave me a bunch of antique shop finds for Christmas.  The little doll (marked Japan), the little bottle with the pansies, a milk bottle, a bottle opener, a tiny pitcher, two metal bowls, and more.  I'll show them later.  It was such fun opening each little surprise, and obviously Max and Mila are excellent shoppers!

Newspaper valentines sprinkled with white glitter were fun and easy.  Haven't decided what to do with the yo yo's and fabric flowers, but I'm almost finished with a Valentine doll.

I'm having fun with the Valentine crafting and decorating.

Over at A Garden Carried in the Pocket:   I've finished and reviewed The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoeb and have several other books to review.  I'm rereading The Vigorous Mind and trying to broaden my horizons once again.

I've added a new blog to my list, Advanced Style.  I found the link over at  Crazy for Fiber (Thanks, Gerrie!)  and have fallen in love with the fashion sense of mature New Yorkers.  The youngest fashion mavens are in their 50's and the oldest one in her 90's!  I'm reconsidering my rather casual and mostly dull wardrobe.  I could use more color, more joy, more vibrancy!  Not that I'll ever spend the time some of these women do in choosing an outfit, but something more than jeans and yoga pants would be a nice change!

  2. I'm going to check out the fashions...but I have to say, anything more than jeans or yoga pants just sounds like too much work and too much thinking for me...I usually add my color and pizazz with a scarf or groovy beads and/or earrings...and I have flip flops in every color =-)

  3. OK! That blog is a HOOT! So maybe I was a little hasty...maybe there is room for a little more oomph in my wardrobe =-) Those people are fanTAStic! =-)

  4. Gerrie - I've been watching the videos of these remarkable women, and they inspire me in so many ways!

Debby - It would be too much work for me to do what they do! But they aren't invisible, are they? So many women "of a certain age" become invisible.

These women are so vital, so alive, and full of oomph! You are right, they are fanTAStic, and I love them for it.

While I never hope to be the fashion artists they are, I am giving a little more thought to the oomph!
