So Long October!

Such a lovely weekend!  Anniversary dinner at Two John's was delicious; I had trout meuniere with lemony steamed asparagus, and new potatoes, and Fee had Chilean sea bass.  We were both well pleased.

Saturday, we were supposed to go to Texas and visit Canton's First Monday Trade Days, but a slight upset in plans, and we junk-shopped locally.  We had fun rummaging through dusty shops that made Fee sneeze and through some more expensive shops.  My favorites are the dusty ones where a bargain might be found.  A lot of the shops are really "antique malls" or flea markets, with booths for different vendors.  You might find an object for $2 in one booth and $5 for the same in another.
We found more button hooks (which we really don't need as they are like so many others that we have, but can't resist), some small crochet hooks, a tiny tin and pulley, tiny oil cans, a small frozen Charlotte, an old doll suit case, some opera glasses, an old wire light fixture and old lamp fixture (not shown and already in process for another eccentricity), small bottles, and miscellaneous other small items.  I was a happy camper!

We had lunch at Mon Juni's and saw an old college friend, Ken Kirbow, which was great because he has the nicest half-smile, and I always love to see him.  Then we were back on the hunt.  Later we stopped at Columbia Cafe for liquid refreshment and a rest.

While we were there, we ran into other old friends, Ricky and Teresa.  They invited us to look at their house.  Oh, I want to live in that house!

I could kick myself for not having a camera and taking pictures.  A big old house in the Highland District with a fabulous stair case, lots of odd shaped rooms, a big front porch, an enclosed side porch with huge windows, transformed into a wonderful sun room, my favorite attic ever, a library with a ladder that rolls (!!!), a cottage out back--this house has all the personality of another time in its architecture.  Inside, it has all the personality of its owners, and Fee and I looked and admired and couldn't see everything!

It was inspiring and caused a great deal of house envy.  I'm so sorry that I couldn't take pictures to share...you would have loved  it, but it would have taken quite a few posts to share everything.

Now, it is time to take down all the Halloween decorations.  Which is sad because I love them, but I'm ready to anticipate next year.  Bryce Eleanor was a lovely mermaid, but I don't have pictures of Mila and Max.  (Erin, you will share, won't you?)

  2. Doreen- It really was a lovely weekend! I'm still unhappy that I didn't have my camera to take some pics of Ricky & Teresa's lovely home, but the images are still in my head.
