Another Halloween Figure

I finally made myself finish top hat man, Fred A'Stare.  His head is needle sculpted cloth,  covered with paper clay.  He has a cloth body and paper clay hands and feet.  Making tiny clothes is tedious, but his black suit was too dreary, so I added a plaid vest.  Still too bland, so black and orange beads were the next step.  He loves leading the orchestra, but also takes plenty of time to dance.  His companions are Cat & Mouse.
It seems that just like in art quilting, beginning projects tends to be more fun than completing them.  Now that I've completed two WIPs, I must decide whether to complete another or begin playing with clay again.

Or I could clean the house...

  2. So dapper! Fred A' Stare..hahaha! Great! I'm wondering: how large/small are these figures? I think you should definitely put these in a show/exhibit of some kind, they are so unique, quirky, and downright fun! I think you are very talented...

  4. Debby, Fred is 11" with his top hat, and the Little Shaman is 9" with his headdress. They both love to dance!

  5. Fred A'Stare, I love that it gave me a good giggle and with those huge brown eyes he suits the name incredibly well. Cat and mouse are wonderful, looks like cat may well call the shots he looks rather knowledgeable ;)

  6. Anthropomorphica, I like the cat best. Fred was mainly an experiment in different techniques, but the little cat poppet was just fun!

  7. I thought of you yesterday when I was at an art fair. Someone had fabric dolls; yours are better, and an interesting mix of media, too.

  9. These are all turning out quite well and definitely not looking like experiments.

  10. Debra, making clothes for this one was a series of experiments. Another thing I need to learn is more about creating and fitting patterns...trial and error is a pain!
