Spiral Block Revisited

I've been playing with the spiral block from back in November, piecing borders to add and thinking about where to go from there.
This project would have qualified for Frugal Friday (WIP and scrap recycling); however, yesterday was not spent on sewing, but on visits to the vet, the library, the grocery store, the nursing home, the vet again, etc. Maybe next week I'll join the Frugal Friday Quilters: Finn, Michele, and last week, Paula, the Quilter.

Last night, I made Rian's Roasted Brussel Sprouts--and they were delicious! Fee's only suggestion was that I make more next time. Brussel Sprouts are an acquired taste, but one that will never be acquired by boiling them to death. RRBS are quick, easy, and delightful - thanks, Rian!

Just noticed how odd the combination of music I'm listening to: Jerry Jeff Walker; Grace (yoga mantras); Anne Murray's There's a Hippo in My Bathtub; Dance Music of the High Renaissance; and some of Deuter's meditation music (you can click on the top right hand corner of the link site to listen to some of his music).

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. I like Deuter's Reiki music. Sometimes I let iTunes Genius make a playlist for me. I would have never picked some of the combos, but it works. Have a good weekend.

  2. Those brussel sprouts look great. We love them here in pretty much any form, but our favorite is to buy the bags of frozen baby brussel sprouts, boil them long enough to be hot through, drain. While they are boiling fry up two slices of bacon, drain most, but not all of the grease. Saute the sprouts in the grease, top with crumbled bacon. SO not healthy, but SO good.

  3. It has been years since I last prepared brussel sprouts. Not that I dislike them; but, Hunky Husband won't touch a vegetable that isn't cook to a squish and, as you noted, brussel sprouts just don't "do it" when they are cooked so much.

  4. i've converted many a brussel sprout hater with a similiar recipe...after cutting them in halves/thirds...stir fry them in EVO with garlic (lots), salt/pepper, and then add coarse ground pinenuts in the last few minutes of cooking.

Lisa - That sounds very similar to my favorite way to fix fresh green beans! You are right about So not health, but So good.

  6. I made RRBS two weeks ago and husband who "doesn't like brussel sprouts" complained I didn't make enough.

  7. Kim - Fee created his own dish using RRBS last night. A stir fry with the brussel sprouts, baby carrots, zucchini and rice. It was very good!
