Derailed

Yesterday, I did some cleaning and organizing, and sure enough, in the process decided on what I wanted to do next.

I made a list of 3 things to work on and was about ready to begin working on them-- when Fee arrived with 2 gallons of paint, a drop cloth, and all of the other painting paraphernalia necessary.

He deposited it all in the room to be painted and told me I could get started. And left.Well, that settled that. My original plans were derailed, so after getting into my painting clothes, I got busy and got the molding painted and the first coat done by about 6:30 PM.

Fee came home, complimented me on how much I'd gotten done, fixed a delicious supper while I cleaned up, and told me that obviously we didn't need to hire painters for the rest of the house because I was that good! Huh?

What a warped sense of humor. But I am glad that this will mean that my new sewing room is getting closer . The room will have a little more natural light and the white will help reflect the light, which is all to the good because my eyes appreciate more light in general and my attitude responds to natural light.

During breaks yesterday, I read How the Brain Changes Itself; I've got about 15 places marked with page pointers and sticky notes already. Our brains are just fantastic and the idea of neuroplasticity, the fact that our brains can continue to change, grow, and become more efficient is so encouraging. While this is especially wonderful for victims of strokes, brain trauma, and for those with certain learning disabilities, it applies to all of us.
Above is my latest stack of books to be read. I'm also enjoying Jane Austen: A Life by Claire Tomalin and Yoga as Medicine.

Hmmph! Guess it is time to get started on the second coat of paint.

  2. Ooh, I forgot that Jacqueline Winspeare's new book is out now. I've got to add it to my hold list at the library.

  5. I'm so jealous of your studio space. I sew in the basement where it is dark and cluttered.

I have a book about the brain right now from the library- A Mind of Its Own (something like that). I'm looking forward to it. When I get to read, that is.

  6. Kay - Yes, it is a new one. It is an Advanced Reader's Copy, and they have asked that it be reviewed in May when the book is released. I'm looking forward to it.

Lisa - It isn't much space, but this bedroom is fractionally bigger and has better light, so I'm thrilled.

Your book sounds good, too! Will be eager to hear how you feel about it (when you find the time to not only read it, but review it). I'm going to add it to my list anyway!

  7. I would probably like the book about Jane Austen. I am in the early stages of her books but I've got some of the movies down and know them by heart. Am reading the books too, just slowly.

  8. Jenclair,
I too am a Jane Austen fan. I have read all of her works including some of the incomplete novels. I would love to know what you think of "Jane Austen: A Life".

Hope your sewing room gets done quickly. I know you will enjoy the hours spent in your own little spot.

  9. Connie - It really is a good biography. My very favorite book is P & P, but my favorite movie is Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow. I'm sure you are enjoying both books and movies!

Jocelyn - I'm enjoying the biography and learning some things. For example, when their family moved to Bath, she was so unhappy that she didn't write for ten years. It wasn't until she moved to Chawton Cottage that she began to write again. How many novels failed to materialize in those lost years?
