Finally!

Finished the binding last night. I enjoy this process for some reason, the penultimate step, the "almost finished" feeling. The final process for me is washing and drying the quilt to achieve that homey touch. I'm disappointed, not so much in the quilt, but in my careless mistakes...some of which I corrected, some of which I did not.

In spite of all the mistakes, I hope it will make one of the mothers-t0-be in Debra's Pregnant Teen Project happy, and goodness knows the baby won't care.
ACey commented on the colors. The colors were a matter of what I had in my stash, but I realize now that I was influenced by the aqua and red combinations I've seen and loved in fabrics and in quilts and in room decor. When I finally decided to use the last of this Kona cotton aqua (that I've used frequently), the way it looked with the red just felt so much better than the other blues I'd auditioned.
I probably won't get this in the mail until Monday as my day is full. Highlight - lunch with Thomas!

  5. I would never have used so much aqua; it's not one of my favorites. But the white and the red set it off perfectly. You've got a great eye! It's a wonderful baby quilt.

Paula - I'm glad to have this one finished since I spent so much time taking out quilting!

Kay - The regular baby blue just didn't do it for me, but I think the aqua adds zing.

  10. Connie - Thanks! I do like the Alice Brooks cowboy applique--very vintage.

Francoise - Sewing the binding is a meditative activity, isn't it? I love the process of that final stitching before washing the quilt.

  11. I love this so much! I would have gone overboard with more blocks or something, but the one block and the big wide solids are perfect. I'd hang this one on the wall and I'm not one for hanging quilts. I'm adding it to my inspiration folder.

  12. Lisa - Thanks! It isn't quite square, but after all the problems I had with the quilting (problems with tension, feed dogs, & uh, quilting a big scrap to the back), it turned out pretty well. :O
