No Outfit Is...

complete without dog hair. Or cat hair, as the case may be.

I used some of my vintage buttons; it was difficult to take them off the card, even though there were two missing when I found the card at a flea market. At least by using them, the poor little buttons get to see the light of day.

I've never seen any buttons mounted like they were -- with copper wire on a thin, thin copper sheet. The copper is all tarnished, but still interesting. The words don't stand out as well as I had hoped, but at least it is better in person than in the photos. The top is hand quilted with simple straight lines in black and white pearl cotton. The back has no batting or quilting.
I put a button hole in the back, but didn't find a button that I liked, so I sewed on a length of ribbon, threaded it through the button hole, and tied a bow.Now I have a nice momento of Mila's artwork for the bed at the cabin.

  3. lovely. I like the ribbon as well - my buttons slways come undone on cushions. I have been trying to convince the boys to draw something cute for my to stitch...but all they are drawing are spaceships and soldiers and boring stuff. I really really like this. and your idea for not burning your fingers on the iron - inspired.

  5. So cute. I knew there was a reason I kept all those old drawings my girls did in grade school.

  7. paula - It was a pleasure to do. Boston terriers have always been our first choice in dogs. My dad was raised with them, my brothers and I, my children, and now my grandchildren all have had Bostons. It makes Mila's drawing even more special!

Debby - Thanks! I'm so glad I had that red and black ribbon.

paulahewit - I think spaceships would be great! So typically boy. :) Yeah, that steam burned my fingers one time too many!

Myra - Thanks - I smile when I look at it, thinking about Miss Mila.

Deb - Oh, get those drawings out and make them something for Christmas! In fact, I should look for the drawings I saved that Erin and Amelia did when they were little.

Shasta - I'm really pleased with it. Originally, I was going to give it to Miss Mila, but I decided she would just have to draw me something else...'cause I can't give this one up.

  9. virtualquilter - I'm full of ideas for pillows! Funny how we move from one obsession to another.

  10. sweet, sweet, sweet....I have to 'borrow' that quote and make a couple pillows for a couple different friends who both recently adopted new pups! and one can easily substitute cat hair and make it purrfect for those that share their lives with cats....

  11. kimy - I thought about the fact that so many quilters have cats and that it was a simple (and accurate) substitution!
