Mila's Dress & Happy Mother's Day!

Finished Mila's dress yesterday. Much easier, much quicker than the little bubble suit.

Neck detail with bright buttons.
To make the details a little different, although I loved the bright little ribbons on Bryce Eleanor's, I had this great ric rac for to peek out of the hem.

So...then I made these little cloth shoes to go with the bubble suit. I had a pattern I'd gotten from the web a couple of years ago, but had somehow lost the instructions. After checking out several sites, I found JoAnna's Stardust Shoes and used her instructions. Next time I will use her pattern as well because the shape of the foot is better on her pattern.

And there should be enough left to get several more little projects out of this cheerful material...

And now I'm getting ready to go down to the cabin at Raft Bayou where we will have a late lunch with Amelia, Chris, and Bryce.

Hope all of you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

  4. Very cute, and so was the bubble suit. It's amazing the amount of work that children's clothes can have because of the detail.

  7. Hi Jenclair,

Do you mind me asking what pattern you had used for Mila's dress?

  10. Annie - Granddaughters are such fun to sew for, but the little shoes are a hoot, aren't they?.

Candace -Thanks! The fabric was great to work with and to handle, but the print was the selling point!

Rian - The shoes fit just fine, but Bryce didn't actually wear them because she had on tiny sandals, and I didn't get a picture. I hope the elastic will keep them on her feet.

Kay - It is sewing those tiny armholes and curves that slow me down. Have to raise the presser foot every 2-3 stitches!

ACey - Happy Mother's Day back at ya'! I didn't take pictures of her when she tried on the shoes, but they do fit. I like the little hem, myself. :)

  11. Ivory Spring - The shoes weren't hard to make -- except that sewing small is harder. The pattern I used is slightly smaller than the one posted on Joanna's site (Bryce still wears newborn size shoes). The process is really simple and Joanna has great pictures in the tutorial.

The dress pattern is Butterick B4176 - Fast & Easy.

Francoise - Thanks. The "fast & easy" was really true for the dress!

Zegi - I have really enjoyed playing with fabric again after a fallow season when nothing called to me!

  14. Rebekah - Thanks! The dress is for the oldest granddaughter (will soon be 5!) and the bubble suit and shoes for the newest granddaughter.

    Niki - Interesting venture!

Karoda - They were fun to do-- well, the dress and shoes were easy and fun; that bubble suit was more time consuming.

  16. The fabric came from JoAnn's; I think it was from the "Tutti Frutti" collection. They were all bright and fun!
