It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

Storms swept through the area tonight, and we were without power for a couple of hours. Fee wasn't home, but I lit some candles and then sat and thought about how life must have been for folks before electricity -- when candles and oil lamps were the only light after the sun went down. It was a peaceful experience because I never just sit and do nothing, but I was forced to because it was too dark to read or sew. We were very lucky, all we did is sit in the dark for a few hours...there were tornadoes and reports of baseball size hail in some areas.

Day 5 -- I didn't get much done today on the Thing-a-Day because I waited so late to start and then the lights went out. I dug out a piece I'd done on the embellisher that I didn't know what to do with, fused fabric to the back, and cut 5 bookmark pieces, which still left a nice sized piece for something else. Then I satin stitched around the edges of two of them before the power went out, but didn't feel like finishing them when it came back on. Soooo...two bookmarks, which took almost no time. Maybe I'll finish the other three tomorrow.detail of the embellished wool and fibers with quilting in metallic gold thread:Now, I'm not an official Thing-a-Day participant, but I love checking out the entries on the blog:
poems, photographs, crochet, felt, hand-carved stamps, recipes, jewelry, pen and ink drawings, a laser-cut in wood, origami, a "spontaneous kitchen still life" inspired by an orange monkey carrot peeler, Bento boxes (check out this Bento box with a kitty made of rice) , and the funniest one to me was a mannequin head with a gnarly wig that was then dyed, cut, and styled!

Miss Bryce Eleanor and I took a walk after lunch, but when we got back, and I put her down, she didn't look too pleased with me. She won't be joining me tomorrow, so I've got to get a bunch of errands done and get to the library and grocery store.
I just found the following quote on Christine Kane's blog:
“A happy life is just a string of happy moments. But most people don’t allow the happy moment, because they’re so busy trying to get a happy life.”

The quote, she says, is from Abraham-Hicks Daily Messages in 2007. I like the quote, and I also like what Christine Kane says about it: "Delight is that moment. Delight shifts your chemistry. "

  6. kimy - It's funny how we manage to fill our time and how seldom we just sit. Usually, I have some handwork or a book, but it really was nice to just sit and think!
