Little Steps & YMMD Award

Yesterday, I finally made a foray into the sewing room. The only way to begin is to begin. I began. I stopped worrying about the cluttered drawers and closets and the chaos all around in the sewing room and began. Now that I've make a little progress in cutting and pinning a few things, I can stop and straighten the room up a bit. Before, my delaying tactic has been: everything in the house, the yard, the whole world must be just right before I allow myself to have fun with fabric.

It matters not at all that I am perfectly aware of what I'm doing. Sewing or fabric related activity of some kind is on my agenda every day, but "no, no, not yet." All of life must be in perfect order. As if! So yesterday, the only thing on my to do list was something fabric related, and although a number of activities kept intervening, finally I washed and ironed my new fabric, used rulers and rotary cutters, and was on my way.

I've been in here and sewing (not just online) a little again today. Now, I must leave it to get back to dutiful behavior and doing what must be done. All those real world things...

Oh, Oh, but first:

I've been the recipient of the You Make My Day Award from Kim at Mouse Medicine, Rissa at Rooted in Mississippi, and Marie of Zquilts. Which made my day on each occasion! Thanks to each of you!

Here are the rules:

“Give the award to up to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel so happy about blogland! Beware! You may get the award several times!”

So since the award can be received several times: My first three awards will be to Kim, Rissa, and Marie!

And because I have no compunction about cheating, here are a few more:
Rian of Rian's Pages
Karoda at Seamless Skin
Jane Ann at the jettstream
(let's just get all of the D's together)
Debby at Cold Feet Quilter
Debby at ...pieces, too...
Deborah at Knitstory
Debra at Design Studio
Gerrie at Crazy for Fiber
Nellie at Nellie's Needles
Fran at Toad Haven Annex
Connie at Simply Quilted
Kim at SkybellArts
Acey at Nichobella

I know I've not been visiting as much lately, and I do miss it, but will try to do better.

  1. Well, there you go, walking around inside my head again! That is exACTly the conversation I had with myself this morning!..."hafta go do this or that before I can even go in the sewing room, etc, etc"...But then, I told myself that the darned groceries can wait, we'll find something to eat or someone else can go; the picking up around the house is not so important and if it's so bad, again, someone else can do it...So I am going to venture in today...not sure what I'll do, maybe just move some things around, but they are MY things and I'll be in MY space!
And: WOW! Thank you for the award =-) I've been so absent lately and feel so neglectful of my blog. Plus, I haven't posted about (or accomplished, really) anything quilty or arty in so long, I'm ashamed! But, I am smiling all over to know that you like to visit and that I can make *you* smile! (Because that is what your blog does for me!) This evening or tomorrow I will go on over there and write a post about this! Thanks! =-)

  2. Jen, Thanks! First Award I've ever received! I love our little online community, each of you make my day. The first thing I do every morning is check Bloglines to see who's posted.

Thanks again! I'm flattered and happy that you visit.

  3. Thanks, Jen! I like being in such good company.

My philosophy is just the opposite--Sewing Studio first, Everything Else last. I haven't heard any complaints so I'm keeping it that way!

  4. Ah Jen, I can completely identify with all you've said. I've had the same issues lately with the mess making me not feel free to create, yet not having the ambition to clean all the messes. Maybe it's winter doldrums?

I haven't been letting myself visit as much on line either because I feel like I should be moving, & cleaning & doing something constructive!

Thanks for including me on your list. You're the TOPS!

  5. Great to see you back posting! I did a class for Rissa's group yesterday and asked about you then since you (and Laddie) have been on my mind. Other than the chaos, I hope things are well with you.

  6. "I have no compunction about cheating"

I knew we were soul sisters! there are times when the bumper sticker wisdom 'resist much, obey little' needs to be heeded!

congrats to everyone!! off to nibble some new blogs!

  7. Right after new years I (more or less) cleared (most of) my work table. Have been trying not to get distracted by too many must-do's around the house OR the roiling chaos that surrounded the clear work space. Funny how sometimes it's completely overwhelming and other times I don't notice it at all.

Thanks for the award. You didn't have a problem with cheating and I was totally willing to retrofit.

  8. Thanks for the "award" Jen.

As far as do what must be done - studio time is always on the list!

    Go. Be. Do.

  9. Ditto. I like to get everything at least almost caught up before I go in the studio. Then once I'm in there, I want to finish what I'm working on before I do anything else.

  10. Ha! I've replied -- tried to reply -- and lost the comment. TWICE. Gone through and responded to each one and lost it. I just can't do it again. :(

I've been doing some sewing, though, and trying to balance!

  11. I like your way of thinking. I'm going to give that a try...especially since I can't stand housework...LOL!

    With friendship,

  12. Thank you, JenClair! The feeling is mutual.

  13. Diva -- I only appreciate housework, when it keeps me from doing something else I don't want to do. You know, can't go to the dentist on Wed., must clean the oven...

Gerrie -- Thanks, Gerrie, and I love the hand dyed pieces you are working on now. Wonderful, soft colors.

Good to hear from you!
