funkey munkeys and a poem

I'm playing with some "onesies" -- these are the little shirts, 3 to a package. Since Bryce is due in December, maybe one should have a winter/Christmas theme. Sometimes I have no ideas at all, and sometimes more ideas than I have time for, but these little shirts are fun and well, there should be some burp cloths, too, I suppose.

Karoda and I share a love for this poet and here is one of her poems (via Foxy Art Studio) :

Truth Serum

by Naomi Shihab Nye

We made it from the ground-up corn in the old back pasture.
Pinched a scent of night jasmine billowing off the fence,
popped it right in.
That frog song wanting nothing but echo?
We used that.
Stirred it widely. Noticed the clouds while stirring.
Called upon our ancient great aunts and their long slow eyes
of summer. Dropped in their names.
Added a mint leaf now and then
to hearten the broth. Added a note of cheer and worry.
Orange butterfly between the claps of thunder?
Perfect. And once we had it,
had smelled and tasted the fragrant syrup,
placing the pan on a back burner for keeping,
the sorrow lifted in small ways.
We boiled down the lies in another pan till they disappeared.
We washed that pan.

  2. Oh, I LOVE your little onesie! I have a granddaughter coming in February. I'd love to make her some of these! Did you stitch the trim right on top of what was already there, or did you cut the existing trim off to remove bulk?

  3. Deb - The onesies are so useful and so soft, and I love them plain, but using my scraps to embellish them is fun!

Caron - Oh, you can do Valentines! I stitched right over the trim because of the placement of the snaps. This one is a little thick, but the one I'm going to do today is just going on top, very raw edge.

  4. Love the onesies - this is a fabulous idea and perfect for special little scraps. I also love the poem - it was a good thing for me to read this morning.

P.S. I made it through most of five hours before I had to start over again yesterday. So far this morning, I've started over twice ...

  5. Wow, what a poem. It makes one feel strength in the feminine connection. Woman really can do anything. Thanks for a great start to my day.

  6. ACey -- I'm going to buy at least one more package because they are such fun. Also need to buy cloth diapers for burp cloths.

:) I am surprising myself at how much I'm thinking about the challenge. I'm not complaining about having to make another trip to pick up meds and take them to the Cottage; I'm looking at it as an opportunity to possibly join the Tai Chi in the park group!

My main difficulties are when I'm with my poor husband...who has been my complaint sounding board.

dee -- Isn't it great? My favorite is this one, but I love this "Truth Serum," too!
